Before Cupcake Co. opened its doors this February, its founder consulted with a focus group of brides-to-be to perfect celebratory sweets for any variety of special occasion. Now, customers can stop by the bakeshop’s King Street location, where fresh-baked cakes, cupcakes, and cake pops tease taste buds with mouthwatering flavors such as cinnamon pecan and macha green tea. The shop offers a relaxing café atmosphere, as it supplies free WiFi, hot café drinks, and seating arranged around a fireplace.
Cupcake Co. also caters events, creating dessert platters and custom cakes. The expert bakers also teach classes on cake and cookie decoration and fondant sculpting.
Customers can be forgiven for needing time to decide when they order from Marzena’s Cakes. The shop's European-style cakes come in 10 different flavours, including red velvet, piña colada, and carrot and pineapple—and those are just the flavours of the cake itself. Customers can also choose such decadent fillings as classic rum ganache and blueberry buttercream to fill the multiple tiers of their custom cakes, which the shop has been known to sculpt into Coach purses, cans of soup, or replicas of Marie Antoinette, who promoted the dessert in one of the most famous endorsement deals in history. The bakery's cupcakes—which are made from scratch daily and therefore vary throughout the week—are just as enticing, treating the taste buds to bursts of peanut butter, almond, and caramel chocolate. Aside from cakes and cupcakes, the shop sells scones, mini desserts, coffee, and rurki—waffle tubes filled with vanilla cream.
