Rustic wood floors, french doors, and calming white walls create a cozy atmosphere that complements T.A.R. Salon's roster of relaxing services. Skilled hands untie muscular knots during massage and bodywork sessions. During hair-related appointments, they'll clip fresh coifs from overgrown scalps, outdated 'dos, or over-powdered wigs. Nailcare and waxing round out the salon’s services, and patrons can opt to combine any number of treatments to usher in a full day of self-pampering.
Since Artur Kirsh founded The Studio CL in 2005, the best-of list in Philadelphia magazine and other media mentions have lauded his salon for its creative cuts. He and his team of extensively trained stylists clip hair with a dry-cutting method, which allows them to sculpt locks into custom ‘dos that retain their shape as they grow out. Along with these unique cuts, Artur’s stylists glide on new hues and rejuvenate shine and smoothness with keratin or Nigelle HY treatments. The beauty crew also specializes in bridal styling, which includes in-studio hair and makeup testing, pampering on the day of the ceremony, and hair treatments that stay in place even when the bride cuts the cake with the traditional wedding chainsaw. After each appointment, clients can maintain their chic new looks by stocking up on brand-name haircare products, including the salon’s exclusive ARTUR line.
Tundella & Co.'s owners, Margarita Gazaryan (Russian-born of Armenian descent) and Gustavo Tundela (from Brazil), seemed destined to end up in the beauty industry. Raised by grandparents who were both hairdressers, Margarita fell in love with the industry early on, whereas Gustavo honed his skills and ability to dry hair by spinning a chair really fast as a fashion model. Today, the duo and their team, including several international stylists, continues to hone avant-garde styling techniques, and Gustavo works as an educator and platform artist for Hotheads Hair Extensions and Natura Keratin, which improves hair nutrition while promoting hair growth. This experience ensures customers, including local celebrities, can rest easy while getting pampered with a variety of hair services and hair-removal and skin-pampering treatments.
At Hot Looks Hair Salon, stylists aim to discover each client's personality and create a haircut that tells his or her story. Led by 30-year industry expert Carol Colantuono, the team specializes in adding texture and shape with razor cuts and accentuating natural hues with color and highlighting techniques. Colantuono designs clients' looks with a sense of style influenced by her apprenticeship with stylist Barry Leonard at Crimper, one of the top salons in Center City, and all of her staff have undergone extensive training in the Vidal Sassoon and Sexy Hair lines. She hands clients a complimentary cup of coffee or glass of wine before beginning specialty treatments such as hair extensions that add length and volume or feather extensions that help clients blend in with migrating flocks of ornithologists.
At 8 years old, Rashada Siojo began twisting tresses into updos and swiping shadow over her friends' eyelids. As an adult, she retained her passion for beauty, eventually opening Siojo Salon, an 1,800-square-foot converted art-gallery space that holds myriad unique touches, including a hand-painted floor, pedicure showers, and an outdoor waiting garden.
Diverse styling tools merge natural beauty elements with modern technology and style, from boar's-hair brushes to state-of-the-art infrared steamers from Japan. Hair owners with overly dry or sarcastic locks can opt for custom hair treatments, such as a banana-leaf protein mask that works to repair damaged strands. The salon's emphasis on organic products and innovative tools sets it apart from lazy salons whose only natural touches are pinecone hairbrushes.
