Tami Taggart—teacher, choreographer, and proprietor of the award-winning Artistry in Motion Dance Studio (AIM)—has a passion for movement that can't be bottled. Having studied under royal figures of dance such as Roni Mahler, Frank Hatchett, and Roberta Thornsberry and performed in musicals such as South Pacific and Oklahoma, she's mastered a myriad of movement in her decades as a dancer and instructor, and has led many students to victory in competitions. With her experienced faculty of teachers, fledgling dancers release their inner swan in classes including ballet, tap, jazz, contemporary, modern, and even hip-hop and break dancing. Music appreciation, choreography skills, the history of dance history, and all of its terminology are also instilled in students of all skill levels and for ages as young as 3.
Operating at 13 tracks coast to coast, FAASST Performance Driving School gives novice racetrack drivers a chance to tear up professional-grade pavement in their own car or in a rental. As an SCCA-accredited program, the school’s daylong racing classes help earn a Novice Racing license and the right to unlimited high-fives from pro stock-car drivers. In most cases, students drive on their own outside of classroom sessions—unless the need for up-close-instructor help is required—and the car is safe for a passenger.
Like a ninja star thrown into a westerly wind, Universal Kempo Karate worked its way east from its first Hawaii location, founded in 1966. It arrived in Colorado Springs in 1980, expanding quickly to multiple locations. The instructors honor the programs that were passed down to them, teaching kids physical fitness combined with mental discipline and expanding into combat techniques as they become adults. Students engage calories in battle, burning them in cardio-focused kickboxing classes that eliminate moves with a risk of injury.
At Springs Equestrians, the CHA-certified instructors' love for horseback riding is equaled only by their passion for sharing their knowledge with others. These experts introduce the basics of Western and hunter-jumper riding styles and dressage in private and group lessons, as well as summer camps for students aged 6–16. Facilities such as an 80'x200' indoor riding arena and scenic outdoor trotting space allow for plenty of hands-on instruction and after-hours horse proms.
At DanceZ, experienced instructors help booty-shakers of varying ages harness the body-slimming power of shimmying. A dynamic dance workout, Zumba combines Latin rhythms with aerobic interval training, and features simple yet fancy footwork that activates sweat glands, burns calories, and sculpts shapely bodies. Though Zumba's easy-to-follow moves and fun dance steps make it an approachable workout for calorie-burners of all abilities, DanceZ adds variety by tailoring typical routines—from Zumba Gold classes for older adults and beginners to bright lights and club-style lasers in nightclub Zumba. Classes are offered five days a week, so be sure to check the schedule for dates, times, and locations.
Just a few generations ago, the sky was a mysterious place, a domain fit only for birds and wizards. Today, that same space is filled with something far more familiar: the excited shrieks of parachute-clad skydivers. At High Sky Adventures, a team of instructors helps guests start that skyward journey with everything from ground school to guided jumps. Whether they're making their first jumps or simply chasing another thrill, divers follow time-tested training standards established by the United States Parachute Association and the American Parachute Association.
