Mary Abernathy grew up in a family where alternative healing methods were the norm, and this experience inspired her to attend the Atlanta School of Massage and become a licensed therapist. In addition to her membership with the Associated Bodywork & Massage Professionals, Mary is also certified by the NCBTMB—a nationally recognized organization that tests practitioners and requires regular participation in educational courses. Mary draws on more than a decade of experience as she intuitively locates pain and brings relief with techniques such as deep tissue, neuromuscular therapy, and myoskeletal alignment. While she works, she concentrates on the deeper layers of the body without causing intense pain or embarrassing clients who are part onion.
While other children grew up wanting to become singers, astronauts, and firefighters, Irene Meiller had other plans. After years of her serving as her family's resident massage therapist, Meiller eventually went on to pursue the profession and has now spent more than a decade as a licensed massage therapist. During this time she's honed her unique style by working aboard cruise ships, at high-end spas, and as a self-employed bodywork specialist. She currently works her magic at Meiller Massage, specializing in deep-tissue and trigger-point techniques that help to treat chronic pain, stress, and limbo-related injuries.
Over the past five years, Effie Yazdani has continuously expanded her skincare repertoire, beautifying faces with Eminence beauty products concocted with natural ingredients such as coconut milk, wild plums, and rosehips. Effie Salon and Spa's facials target specific skincare issues such as blemishes, the effects of aging, or an unshakeable Sid Vicious sneer. The spa's aestheticians also tend to hands and feet with manicures and pedicures, and uproot hair from follicles with waxing or threading services. Creative Cuts, a hairstyling studio that shares Effie Salon and Spa's Canton location, keeps manes trimmed, straightened, or styled.
Salon 20 moved into its new location in March 2013, but it couldn’t feel more like home if it had been there for 20 years. Inside clients find a modern salon in a historic home with both upscale furnishings and homespun decorations such as inspirational wall art. Friendly stylists with more than 40 years of combined experience stay up to date on the latests trends and create hip and chic looks. In addition to cuts for all ages, coloring, and smoothing treatments, staff have expert knowledge on special occasion styles such as prom updos and texture services.
Salon 20 proudly positions itself as “a small-town salon,” and takes part in community outreach activities such as collecting items for homeless ministries in the area. Stylists also shear hair for donation to Locks of Love and, every year, raise money for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.
At HealthSource Chiropractic, staff members work with clients to develop written individual action plans to treat joint and muscle pain. A tailored treatment can blend attention from chiropractors, massage therapists, and progressive-rehabilitation staff to leverage the diverse benefits of a variety of modalities in the same visit. All staffers are trained to educate clients about chiropractic care's role in overall physical well-being, using a nifty song that helps you remember what the hipbone is connected to—a USB port.
For five years, Astoria Med-Spa has welcomed customers into a laser and skin center overseen by a physician. Powerful but gentle laser beams remove hair, perform photofacials, and even tighten wrinkled skin, alongside other med-spa services such as peels, microdermabrasions, and spider-vein therapy for image-conscious arachnids.
