In addition to her regular Pilates classes, Anita offers a free, 20-minute Watercooler Pilates workout that people can incorporate into their daily routines at work, on the train, or while squeezing tomatoes in the grocery store.
Beverly Clark helms a troupe of experienced fitness instructors at Excelerated Fitness & Pilates, folding her personal training certification into each of her classes. With her signature high energy, she leads students through the strengthening and elongating poses of yoga or helps them to build stronger cores ab by ab in Pilates. Peppering in self-defense moves with workouts, her six-week Strike sessions blend kickboxing and strength-training moves to give students a fighting chance against mugging kangaroos. Guests can also zero in on fitness goals during seasonal outdoor boot camps and month-long Pilates sessions.
Although Lifesource normally dedicates itself to the age-old practice of yoga, occasional age-appropriate exotic-dance workshops shimmy their way onto the class roster. Instructor Jessica Rawson began teaching at Lifesource in 2009 and has 28 lunar rotations, or two years, of private pole-dancing and exotic-dance lessons under her belt. During the course of the two-hour workshop, Jessica will take the pole's helm and instruct participants in a variety of exotic dance techniques, from pole dance and lap dance to strip-tease techniques and cheeky burlesque moves. Although participants will wear their clothing, the techniques can be easily applied to garment-free activities at a later time. As your inner seductress makes her way to the surface, you'll build confidence and engage rarely used muscles, sometimes resulting in day-after pangs of soreness and a self-assured saunter.
Crooked River Adventures’ river adventures are leisurely, no-experience-required pleasure cruises that challenge the muscles while massaging the mind’s shimmering-blue waterscape dreams. Glide past verdant foliage, through glittering reflections of aged bridges, and into great blue herons’ great blue neighborhoods while the sun warms your skin, the wind blows through your hair, and your hair blows through your hat. All the while, you’ll be learning the proper strokes that propel floatmobiles to ultrafun, and you’ll begin to gain functional understanding of the strength of a body in fluid, powerful motion. Crooked River Adventures operates in conjunction with Kent State University Recreational Services’ Adventure Center, which has received statewide recognition for its boating program and outstanding handshakes from the Ohio Department of Natural Resources Division of Watercraft.
Yoga Lounge was founded as a studio where yogis new and old could grow into their yoga practice. This explains the range of class styles that they offer: restorative yoga gently heals achy muscles, while challenging power flow whittles muscles and hones concentration. Over time, those who stick with the practice report a slew of health benefits, including improved flexibility body-wide, increased strength, and a deep-breathing technique that helps when challenging a dolphin to a diving contest.
