World Discoveries amplifies the imaginations of little ones with a selection of classic and eclectic board games, science kits, dolls, and other interactive distractions. Its junior versions of Monopoly and Scrabble prepare tykes for the cutthroat world of spelling bees and elementary-school property disputes, and its Jenga Max tower tests the patience of wee players with perpetual rebuilding projects. A set of Blendy pens encourages kids to mix and match colors, and Scientific Explorer kits demonstrate modern science in action with chemistry sets, mock volcanoes, and baking-soda-fueled rockets.

Photographs. Sculptures. Music. Film. Oceanside Museum of Art's visitors will encounter many different forms of artistic inspiration as they sample the museum's wealth of local and global artists from the 20th and 21st centuries. Like the art world itself, the museum and its galleries evolve constantly—at least 15 different exhibitions open there each year.

  • Size: 4,500 square feet encompass four rotating galleries, which host more than 15 exhibitions annually
  • The Buildings: The museum's side-by-side structures were designed by acclaimed architects Irving Gill in the early 20th century and Frederick Fisher in the early 21st century.
  • Don't Miss: The Museum Store, which sells jewelry, glass, clothes, and other original works of art
  • Special Programs: Art classes, the 333's Music at the Museum series, and Art After Dark—evenings of wine, beer, and themed creative entertainment
  • Pro Tip: The museum closes its doors and puts a pillow under every statue's head on Mondays and major holidays.
  • Beyond the Museum: OMA's travel programs take people on art-themed trips to foreign countries.

Though they’re surrounded by ocean and sandy beaches, the kids at Seascape Kids Fun never get wet. That’s because the seaside sights are actually murals, all part of the indoor playground's oceanic theme. Designed for kids of all ages, the three-story facility includes an Aquarium Play Room, where youngsters explore a play structure that circles a range for launching foam balls.

Island- and ocean-themed parties include time in both Seascape playrooms. Face painting and pizza feasts can also enliven parties, while donuts treat guests during morning pajama parties. While their kids scamper about, guardians can relax by surfing complementary Wi-Fi or pretend-read Finnegan's Wake in public.

My Giggle Place was founded with the idea of creating a place for kids and parents to come together and learn from each other, connecting fellow parents and their children in a warm and supportive play space. Kids slalom down the chutes of plastic slides and sink into the soft, brightly colored orbs at the ball pit, all the while giving parents time to share advice on diapers or time-out philosophies. Children explore their creative impulses through puppet shows and karaoke at the Giggle Theatre or put their personal touch on frames at the craft center. The play space also offers an infant area, a building zone, a gym, and a library where toddlers can brush up on Dr. Seuss. Visitors also develop discipline and self-defense skills through My Giggle Place's tae kwon do program, with classes offered throughout the week.
