Trained by JuKiDo founder Kyoshi Ivan Ujueta, Haben's Martial Art's head sensei Paul Haben draws from his hard-hitting experience to help students reach their individual goals. Classes cover a range of disciplines including the syncretic style of JuKiDo, which blends the soft defensive styles of judo and jiu-jitsu with the uncompromising strikes of karate and kickboxing. Students can also learn Brazilian jiu-jitsu, which enables the neutralization of larger opponents through the assistance of the floor, or focused, mixed martial arts for students determined to kick through lead. Since in utero instruction has proven impractical, Haben's Martial Arts accepts students starting at 4 years of age, with classes especially designed for different age groups.
Touting 60 years of collective experience, the seasoned senseis at Saldivar Martial Arts have the prowess to mold pupils into impregnable self-defenders. Students with belt shades ranging from lily-white to blacker than the inside of an uncracked walnut can enroll in beginner through advanced classes and work on mastering Saldivar's fundamental principles of integrity, commitment, and discipline. Karate kids of all ages can fling foot and fist in tae kwon do courses, and those aged 16 and over can strike, block, and parry in all-levels kickboxing courses. Students will be garbed with karate uniforms to wear in future lessons or to disguise themselves as walking snow angels.
Judo is one of the grappling arts, which means that it has no strikes and uses no weapons, unlike karate or tae kwon do. Judo was developed in 1882 by Jigoro Kano as a comprehensive method of physical education, and it continues to provide exercise, entertainment, and self-defense knowledge today. For fun or competition, Universal Judo provides instruction and enjoyment to practitioners of all skill levels and ages. Call ahead to schedule your first visit.

The fourth annual Pumpkin Patch San Antonio celebrates the advent of fall with harvest-themed entertainment, running Friday through Sunday for the entire month of October near Sea World. Traditional hayrides stir the senses with the scent of fresh straw as a seemingly endless plot of pumpkins waits to be turned into fresh pies, pancakes, and sweet bread. While at the festival, kids can ride ponies, pet small farm animals, or defy gravity in the inflatable bounce house and slide.
