A nationally renowned tutoring program, Sylvan Learning Center utilizes a personalized tutoring approach to develop students of all ages and abilities into perceptive pupils. During the initial visit, children will partake in a Sylvan Skills Assessment that highlights trouble areas and serves as a base line for future progress. An erudite educator then leads four one-hour tutoring sessions tailored to young minds' particular needs, covering subjects that include math, reading, writing, and the ethics of alligator wrestling. Fledgling polymaths can use their customized tutoring sessions to prepare for future algebra tests or fine-tune study skills to get a head start on memorizing next year’s phone book. Sylvan Learning Center gifts proud progenitors with regular progress reports granting comprehensive summaries of their offspring's progress. All four Sylvan Learning Centers are open throughout the week, with hours in the morning and afternoon to accommodate busy schedules.
If there was a single store that housed all the boats and campers of 50 companies, it would need to be the size of Arkansas. The Austin Boat and Travel Trailer Show precludes the task of building such a titanic edifice by bringing together more than 50 exhibitors—among them Austin Canoe & Kayak and Shoreline Boat & RV Repair—at the Austin Convention Center in mid-January. Here, the exhibitors display myriad pontoons, fishing boats, and truck campers—which are more comfortable than a tent pitched in the trunk of a Pontiac sedan. Area dealers such as Sail and Ski Center and Crestview RV Center join them, flaunting the latest boat and camper models. In addition to hands-on displays, the show hosts seminars that teach students how to properly dock their boats or use marine GPS (seminars are an additional fee).
The first step to getting healthy at Heeling Sole? Kick off your shoes. The team here specializes in barefoot massage therapy—also known as ashiatsu—during which, therapists use their bare feet to apply concentrated pressure, stimulating the lymphatic system while simultaneously easing pent-up tension. But that's not all these feet can do; the staff also dole out barefoot ashi-thai massage, a technique that uses a combination of deep pressure and vigorous jostling movements to improve circulation, encourage detoxification, and jiggle out accidentally swallowed Jolly Ranchers. Yoga classes, meanwhile, concern themselves with the health of soles and souls, with study in styles such as vinyasa flow, hatha flow, and restorative yoga.
Visitors to Austin Free-Net’s computer labs can bolster typing skills, build a resume to submit to potential employers, and embark on the online-job-application process. However, in order to maintain the health of the labs’ systems, its computers run a program that wipes hard drives after each client completes a session, preventing them from saving their work. Austin Free-Net would like to equip those who complete a computer course—such as basic skills or Word basics—with a 1-gigabyte flash drive. The drive contains enough storage space for users to save numerous documents and its portability will allow users to carry their information anywhere they go.
Entrepreneur and president of a national recruiting firm, Ken Kuznia is the Bela Karolyi of job coaches. The 4.5-hour session puts an emphasis on action and results. After developing a clear picture of your dream job, you'll learn to become a job finder, rather than a seeker, and sculpt a results-driven resume out of a six-foot block of Belgian chocolate. The program also includes a seminar workbook and your own iDigMyWork Action Plan.
