Studio Soiree takes the age-old art of pole dancing and supes it up with a bevy of core-training techniques. Certified instructors kick off pole education with an initiative course required of all beginners. In Intro to Pole, students learn how to safely maneuver on and around the pole while developing elementary dance moves. Five advancing course levels follow, each building toward an eventual masters degree in anti-gravitational gumption. Studio Soiree provides a welcoming environment for students of all shapes, sizes, and fitness levels, and most classes are exclusively for women. Reservations are required, as admission is offered on a first-to-sign-up, first-served basis.
Tadasana Yoga Studio's 10 instructors tap into years of training and experience to lead enthusiastic yogis of all levels through heated group-exercise classes. Ninety-minute Bikram yoga classes encourage participants to unfurl across yoga mats through a sequence of 26 postures as tireless air ducts and domesticated dragons heat the space up to 105 degrees. Power Vinyasa classes in 60-, 75-, and 90-minute sessions reach 95-degree temperatures as Baron Baptiste–inspired exercises strengthen muscles and cores. Eighteen weekly yoga classes are held as early as 6:30 a.m. or as late as 6:45 p.m., allowing for heated workouts before breakfast or following afternoons spent painting still lifes of breakfast.
Though the business still bears his mother's name, today it's Marty's son, Chip, who preaches the good news of outdoor and extreme sports at Marty's Ski and Board Shop. Like every lynx born on the side of a mountain, Chip has a natural love of skiiing and snowboarding, and he pours his three decades of outdoor experience into his work. Under his guidance, the crew at Marty's equips athletes with technology and gear from brands including Arbor, Rossignol, Dynastar, and Armata to blaze frozen trails and otherwise explore the great outdoors. In addition to its slew of retail skis and boards, winter-sports clothing, and biking apparel, the staff sharpens skis and tunes-up bicycles to keep shredders shredding and cyclists from becoming accidental unicyclists.
Founded by Stacia and Luc Robitaille, Echoes of Hope summons a spirit of hopefulness in at-risk and emancipated foster children through an array of engaging programs, events, and personalized holistic support. After a VIP arrival replete with a red carpet and zambonis snapping pics, NHL alumni and a plethora of Hollywood stars, including Cuba Gooding Jr. and Glee's Cory Monteith, exhibit their checking and slap shooting skills in a charity hockey game at the Park City Ice Arena. In addition to a general-seating spot to view the action, ticketholders can stick around and socialize after the third period at a postgame party hosted on the ice and throughout the arena. Tykes eager to strap on skates of their own can glide into the NHL All Star youth hockey clinic, during which Luc and fellow NHL players review puck-protecting fundamentals before students compete in a pickup game. Clinic registration also bestows attendees with a ticket to the charity game, a new hockey stick, a certificate signed by Luc Robitaille, and miniature penalty box for disobedient action figures.
SwimKids jumpstarts tykes' swimming strokes and socialization skills in classes conducted in an indoor pool heated to a balmy 90 degrees. The program traces its roots back to 1983, when Liz Walker sought out a class that could teach her own 18-month-old daughter to swim. Her search led her to a local swimming pool where tykes as young as 10 months were impressively proficient in the water. Liz studied their method and began teaching on her own, a profession she has continued to pursue for the past 30 years. Today, the enthusiastic instructors at SwimKids continue to get results, helping develop pool-ready skills in kids as young as 3 months old.
In 1911, when he opened Standard Optical, Henry Schubach could not have guessed that his successors would be providing LASIK treatments and contact lenses in 18 clinics. Each office fills with chatter as doctors check prescriptions and work to identify common optical issues, such as glaucoma or weeping when an onion dies. Light skips off ranks of designer frames from Coach, Maui Jim, Guess, Lacoste, and Dior, and transitional lenses darken as newly keen-eyed patrons mosey from the shop. The staff at Standard Optical has also performed more than 15,000 LASIK procedures, and offers a free consultation for those seeking to ditch frames.
