The artists at Wine and Canvas awaken their students’ inner Rembrandts and van Goghs with classes that pair a featured painting with specialty cocktails and wines. The mobile studio’s monthly calendar includes themed classes in which instructors expound on the nuances of painting Parisian street lamps, Japanese flowers, or Venetian cityscapes. The master painters—many of them local artists—provide step-by-step instructions, and students mimic each stroke and periodically dip their brushes into glasses filled with crimson cabernet. Each of the studio’s various drink-friendly venues boasts a specialty libation selected to incite creativity or conversations with fellow painters. When the artistic frenzy concludes, students return home with a finished masterpiece large enough to conceal any wall safe or mirror portal.
The pintsize artist considers her canvas, pintsize fingers encircling stocky pastel sticks and paintbrushes' lanky handles as she unleashes a deft slash of color. This isn?t a description of Georgia O?Keefe?s 10th birthday party?it?s just another day at Time For Art Kids' bustling studio. Attached to the home of founder Dina, the studio welcomes children aged 6?11 for eight-week art classes, wherein kids are encouraged to express their thoughts and feelings through creative visual images. Year-round art camps combine arts and crafts with show-and-tell and games. Time For Art Kids also sets up face-painting stations at birthday parties and other celebrations, and welcomes large groups for children's birthday parties and ladies' and parents' nights out.
Heather of Heather Swanner Photography has had a passion for photography since she was 16, but it was only when she became a mother that she truly understood the importance of immortalizing everyday life. She puts her maternal experience and her 18 years as a photographer into every shot she takes, working with clients on location during weddings and family portraits. To help pass on her love of the art, she leads students of all levels through lessons.
Founded by an ACE–certified master fitness trainer, One-2-One Fitness transcends the impersonal large-gym experience with intimidation-free, small-group boot-camp sessions. A Monday–Saturday schedule of classes takes place indoors and out, with attendance limited to 20 participants to ensure personal attention and to decrease the likelihood of a flash-mob dance routine erupting during class. Rotating routines prevent boredom with cardio spurts of jogging and plyometrics complemented by strength-building pushups and squats. An emphasis on dynamic partner exercises encourages patrons to pair up with buddies or significant others in shedding pounds.
