When they weren't busy winning Ironman triathlons and coaching athletes to national success, the trainers behind Multisports.com spent their time like many Americans: hanging out with their favorite pooches. Eventually, the team found a way to incorporate their four-legged friends into their runs, as well. Thus, the Petco 5K9 Walk Run was born. Now a national series of 1-mile and 5K runs, the dog-friendly events promote outdoor activity while raising funds for local animal welfare groups with the help of the Petco Foundation. In addition to hitting the course with their pets, participants can also discover the latest exercise innovations during a visit to the event's health and fitness expo.
Gold’s Gym lures fitness seekers from all walks of life with cardio decks, strength-training equipment, and aerobics rooms filled with energizing classes. Instead of reciting Shakespearean monologues as they jog and pedal, guests can watch movies in a cardio theater lined with treadmills, bikes, and an oversize projection screen. Free weights encourage biceps to bulge, and resistance machines tone arms, abs, and legs. Sports lovers dribble basketballs and volley racquetballs on shiny courts (available at most locations), raising their heart rates as they hone hand-eye coordination. Like the nightly news, Zumba classes take an hour and set Latin-inspired dance moves that vaporize calories to vibrant world music, along with a slew of available selections, including cardio and spin classes. Consult each location’s webpage for a class schedule and a list of additional amenities, which range from childcare to personal training (not included in today’s Groupon).

To get the best view of the desert, you don't walk through it; you glide over it. The 2,500 feet of combined ziplines at Kanab Zipline let customers do just that. The three-zipline course sends riders zooming across scenic canyons, gullys, and the Pink Cliffs as they descend 1,000 feet from the tops of cliff to ground level. The entire course area sits on an undisturbed stretch of desert, and staff do their best to minimize their impact by creating paths that avoid displacing the area's natural wildlife and postcard photo-shoots.
If you're near a traversable waterway in Utah on a sunny summer day, chances are good that you'll run someone gliding along on a stand-up paddleboard. Many of these watery wayfarers travel courtesy of board's rented out by Paddleboard in Utah's extensive network of local affiliates. The outposts unlock access to some of the best boarding sites in and around Salt Lake City; The Lodge at Stillwater welcomes guests eager to explore the Jordanelle Reservoir, while Lindon Marina serves as a jumping-off point for Utah Lake's extensive wetlands. Some, such as Gonzo Boat Rentals and Tours, pull double duty, operating shops at both Antelope Island and the Great Salt Lake State Marina. Others, such as On The Pond Fitness and Rentals, pair their rentals with fitness routines performed atop the waters of Willard Bay State Park. While most of the shops remain close to greater SLC, at least one encourages more far-ranging expeditions; situated near Cedar City along the state's southern border, DIG Paddlesports helps travelers access the inviting waters of Sand Hollow and Quail Creek State Parks.
Voted the best public course in Utah by Golfweek, Sand Hollow Resort and its two courses are sequestered amid the scenic mountain vistas of southern Utah. The championship course's 7,300-yard, par 72 gauntlet offers challenging rounds to golfers of all skill levels, with difficult but attainable birdies at each hole. Red rock outcroppings border the links of the first nine, and the southwestern beauty of the 15th hole graced the cover of Golfweek's best-courses issue.
