It’s tempting to say that Beauty Couture Studio Salon’s owner, Amy Ward, is a one-woman show. That wouldn’t do justice to the women she beautifies day in and day out, though. She takes care of her clients’ every need in her private studio, from pouring them a cold beverage to delicately affixing hair or NovaLash extensions. She rouges cheeks and coats nails with long-lasting layers of Gelish polish, sometimes working in glitter or unique floral shapes, animal prints, or tiny portraits of the client’s 10 favorite presidents. She also, of course, performs the traditional tasks of a salon artist, trimming, conditioning, and highlighting hair.
Lynn Newberry's tool chest bears only one man's name: Paul Mitchell. A Paul Mitchell–educated stylist, Lynn employs the products with which she was trained in each and every treatment, including cuts for men, women, and children; advanced color treatments; and KeraTriplex conditioning.
The initials in AIB Salon stand for "art of Indian beauty," and traditional South Asian beauty techniques are indeed its focus. Stylists can deftly use modern techniques such as Japanese hair-straightening or permanent eyelash extensions, but the team specializes in the ancient art of threading—manipulating 100% cotton threads to remove unwanted facial hair with more speed and precision than waxing, shaving, or tweezing. It's also gentle, since the thread lassoes each hair without causing discomfort to the surrounding skin.
Newly de-fuzzed faces can celebrate with facial treatments that incorporate herbs and even gold. Indeed, a taste for glamour permeates AIB Salon: makeup artists revel in creating jaw-dropping wedding looks and, especially, henna designs almost too elaborate to be believed.
Cosmetologist Patsy Baggs purchased Signature Spa & Salon in 1983, and in the decades since, she has expanded the boutique's menu of services thanks to a multitalented team of stylists, massage therapists, and cosmetologists. The staff beautifies nails with glistening polishes and nurtures hair with products from Redken and Matrix.
