Fresco Salon’s five-person team ranges from stylist Desiree, who stays abreast of the latest looks through continuing education, to cosmetologist Candy, who earned the nickname with her sweet disposition. The staff members' diversity reflects their diverse services. Desiree tends locks with custom trims and coloring tailored to clients’ face shapes, aided by products such as Bed Head Superstar or Curls Rock. Cosmetologists, meanwhile, wax away unwanted hair or tend skin with soothing products from brands such as Chi Organics Olive Nutrient Therapy, a botanical-filled line infused with essential oils and olive ingredients. Armed with a full spectrum of polish colors from OPI, Orly, and a bottle of melted Skittles, the two nail techs can paint natural nails or acrylics with vibrant hues.
Mocha walls drench Amour Nails & Day Spa in a warm and welcoming tone that, perhaps not by coincidence, correlates with a few of the spa’s mani-pedis. For example, both men and women can sink into a cushy pedicure throne and enjoy the Ooh-la-Latte treatment, which hydrates skin with a chocolate-latte bath and a sugar scrub. Nail technicians also indulge hands and feet with a range of other tasty-sounding products, such as milk and honey to moisturize skin and green tea to protect it from free radicals.
While the main floor—dedicated to nailcare—bustles with the sounds of whirling footbaths and chitchatting manicurists, private spa rooms whisk clients into a relaxation oasis where they can obtain a facial, massage, or one of four salt and sugar scrubs and body wraps. The beauty team also conducts waxing treatments in the private rooms to remove hair from bodies.
Within Southern Roots Salon, a chic space decorated with teal accents and exposed brick walls, stylist Connie Purpura helps clients to achieve the look they desire. She draws on skills learned at Ogle School while precisely snipping locks into edgy or classic cuts, infusing hair with rich color, or smoothing tresses with keratin blowouts. Patrons also can opt for professionally applied cosmetics, waxing, or manicures.
Eleven 11 Hair Studio has recently expanded their offerings, adding a blow-dry bar to their full menu of cut, color, extension, and smoothing services. In 2011, D Magazine reporter Raya Ramsey praised the salon—formerly Sol Ben Hair Studio— and its owners Asher and Shari, writing that “they’re experts, and you won’t be sorry with what you walk away with.” Mirroring the owners’ collective commitment to style, the salon’s waiting area adds an artful touch to any visit, with pillow-strewn, contemporary couches complimenting shiny black floors, square white columns, towering ceilings, and shelves lined with products by Kérastase and Sebastian. And inside the main space, sleek chairs invite clients to sit in front of full-length mirrors as stylists cut, color, and texturize strands, leaving them looking as stunning as a taser draped in prom dresses.
