In 1987, the Dayton Daily News briefly outlined the life of Charles L. Marshall, the then 86-year-old president and owner of Grismer Tire. Though the article appeared a quarter of a century ago, it still captured 55 years worth of history at Grismer, from its purchase during ?the dark days? of the Great Depression?thanks to Marshall?s winning personality and a banker?s $13,000 loan?to its transformation into one of the most successful auto centers in Ohio.

Today, at each of its 22 locations scattered across Southern Ohio, ASE-certified technicians continue to dispense the top-notch service that made the garage famous. They drain and replenish oil, align wheels, and fix busted transmissions and cooling systems. Equipped with nine brands of tires, including Michelin, Bridgestone, and BF Goodrich, the team outfits rides of all makes and models with brand-new rollers, allowing them to zip down highways or blend in at parades with ease.

The Five Seasons Family Sports Club houses tennis courts, a dining area, fitness facilities, swimming pools, and a full-service spa under one roof. Within air-conditioned indoor courts or on outdoor hard or clay courts, racquet slingers compete in friendly bouts to sharpen swings, refine backhands, and showcase grunting abilities. Members can also break a sweat in exercise areas speckled with modern cardio equipment and weights or cool off in an Olympic-sized pool with diving wells and wading areas. Before meeting others for a postgame beverage at the lively caf?, clients can wander to the spa for a relaxing massage or partake in a sports workshop to gain a firm grasp on game mechanics.

When Schlotzsky's first opened in Austin back 1971, the owner offered just one sandwich. Known as The Original, the stack offered lean smoked ham, genoa and cotto salamis, three kinds of cheese, and a layer of marinated black olives, all atop a hot sourdough bun. That?s all it took to get Schlotzsky?s off the ground and send it on its way to become a global franchise, today featuring locations in 35 states and four countries. Of course, today?s menuholds many, many more flavor combinations?Angus roast beef and cheese, chicken and pesto, and a smoked-turkey reuben, to name a few?along with salads and pizzas. The latter aren't as much of a divergence from Schlotzky's lunch-friendly template as it might sound: at eight inches across, they're still easy to grab on the go, and the crust is made with sourdough just like the signature sandwich bread and the walls of the head baker's home.

In 1939, James Clark bought Belmont Pharmacy, where he had worked as store pharmacist. His son, James Clark Jr., followed him into the business, and eventually the enthusiastic, dedicated family began opening additional branches. Today, a third-generation Clark, Tim, oversees the operation of the eight locations.

Each location mingles old-fashioned corner-store friendliness with modern health-care tools. Medical equipment, such as lift chairs and canes, ease home life, as do prescription medications that can be delivered by a friendly staff member. The Huber Heights location also has a compounding pharmacy, in which highly trained workers customize prescriptions to individual needs, combining multiple medications into a single dosage, adding kid-friendly flavors, or carving each pill into the shape of a white blood cell.

No one knows the healing power of yoga therapy as intimately as Sheri Glackin who, after living with chronic back pain caused by four herniated discs, was able to heal herself with yoga therapy in a few months. She knew immediately that she wanted to teach others how to heal without invasive surgeries or body swaps, and she became certified as a yoga therapist and Reiki practitioner.

Today, her yoga-therapy sessions help ailing clients repair their bodies through hands-on yoga postures, breathing techniques, and meditation. Yoga therapy is more like physical therapy than traditional yoga, and it is tailored to treat chronic pain and stress with specific movements. Sheri also balances energy with relaxing Reiki sessions.
