It’s easy to see the imprint of Body & Soul Fitness founder Jade Reyes on his studio’s class curriculum. His specialty in dance aerobics is displayed in exotic-dance and Latin-dance-inspired Zumba classes. And his training in kickboxing informs not only classes in the same discipline, but also body-combat classes, which feature high- and low-impact moves to challenge exercisers of all fitness levels. He also specializes in spinning and knows much about massage therapy and relaxation, which explains why yoga is on the schedule and drinking Mountain Dew and screaming Van Halen lyrics is not.
Although Intersport Fitness Center houses a sprawling weight room, there's still space for exercisers who don't want to work out alone. The facility's staff schedules one-on-one personal-training sessions and weekly group-fitness classes, including cycling and aerobics. Topping things off are amenities such as saunas.
Basketball on Monday, racquetball on Tuesday, Zumba on Wednesday, swimming on Thursday, weight lifting on Friday, and a weekend of relaxing in the Jacuzzi. There's even an indoor-outdoor swimming pool open during winter and summer months, thanks to a convertible roof that facilitates year-round frolics. This could be an entry in a PE teacher's dream journal or a routine visit to Modesto Court Room Fitness. Its 35,000-square-foot gym has been shaking up workout regimens for 35 years.
Members climb aboard weight machines and cardio equipment under the watchful eye of a personal-training staff or jettison calories alongside peers in group classes. Two aerobics studios host classes such as body pump, yoga, boot camp, cycling, and Zumba or special sessions where guests tone on Pilates reformers. Patrons cross rackets on one of eight racquetball courts or drench a sweatband during pick-up games of full-court basketball.
As they enter the training circle at Curves, female guests come face-to-face with the smiles of other women. And just as points on a circle share a common distance from the circle's center, workout participants share the experiences of those nearby by trading stations throughout the 30-minute training session. One minute is spent on a piece of strength-training equipment built for feminine frames and designed to work two opposing muscle groups with a single movement. Exercisers then move on to a recovery station, where they run, jog, or dance to maintain heart rates and keep platforms in place during momentary losses of gravity.
