It’s easy to see the imprint of Body & Soul Fitness founder Jade Reyes on his studio’s class curriculum. His specialty in dance aerobics is displayed in exotic-dance and Latin-dance-inspired Zumba classes. And his training in kickboxing informs not only classes in the same discipline, but also body-combat classes, which feature high- and low-impact moves to challenge exercisers of all fitness levels. He also specializes in spinning and knows much about massage therapy and relaxation, which explains why yoga is on the schedule and drinking Mountain Dew and screaming Van Halen lyrics is not.
Tina Kelly and Diane Flores, sisters and founders of Venus Pole Fitness, have always preferred doing things together. Throughout their adult years, they attended dance classes and boot camps, constantly in search of an exercise regime that was not only fun but effective. When they discovered pole-dance fitness, they instantly loved it and quickly purchased a pole, stage, and DJ booth packed with pop-music CDs. Their purchases led to the eventual creation of Venus Pole Fitness, where the certified duo teach ladies of all fitness levels and friction coefficients how to spice up their exercise regime and build their confidence through hip swivels and spins.
At Modesto Self Defense & Fitness, it's a family affair. Hardworking and energetic, the trainers from the Bucheli-Choate clan motivate their trainees with daily-changing CrossFit workouts that may include overhead squats, pull-ups, and lifting your grandmother over your head. They also help students tone and strengthen their bodies in boot camp, or dispense hard-hitting self-defense martial-arts skills in krav maga.
After a lifetime of bodybuilding, owner Austen Di Pirro decided the time had come to share with others his hard-earned knowledge about exercise, diet, and supplements, and thus he opened The Fit Factory. With a stock of products, equipment, and routines built on his knowledge, Austen began to court customers by offering tailored recommendations based on his personal experience to help them achieve the tone and shape of body they desired. He eventually met his wife, Kimberly, when she stopped in for some vitamins, and together they have started a family and expanded the services of The Fit Factory.
Through personal training, the couple helps clients establish long-term goals and break them into bite-sized short-term goals. Austen and Kimberly then promote progress toward these objectives by proffering advice such as which type of training to engage in on a certain day or how long to put one's boss in a headlock before giving up on a raise. Dietary recommendations and supplements purchased from the onsite store aid in reinforcing lifestyle changes outside of the gym. Other instructors offer fitness classes such as cardio kickboxing or group intensity training, which combines the benefits of weight training, Zumba, plyometrics, and TRX resistance training.
In an open space of hardwood floors and walls of mirrors, members work up a sweat on treadmills and elliptical trainers while focusing their attention on the personal TVs each machine is equipped with. This is one of the many perks at FitU's Modesto, Oakdale, and Riverbank locations, some of which also feature massage therapy that can soothe muscles after working out or running into the weight room’s clear plexiglass walls. The enthusiastic staff is always on hand to dole out pointers to those heaving free weights or pushing toward David-like physiques on the circuit weight-training machines. They also motivate patrons in a social setting with group fitness classes, including yoga, Pilates, Zumba, and spinning sessions. During one-on-one personal-training sessions, they zero in on a patron's abilities and goals to develop a challenging, yet manageable, fitness regimen. In addition to all the fitness-related amenities, the Modesto and Oakdale locations also feature cardio movie theaters and childcare facilities.
Before they discovered TRX training, A List Fitness owners Vince and Lori were itching for a new exercise regimen. Vince's experience with college baseball and other competitive sports gave him the same tenacity as Lori's seven years as a personal trainer, and together, they explored ways to enhance their gym's class curriculum. Once they tried the suspension system for themselves, they added it to the roster immediately.
TRX now shares the spotlight with other one-hour group classes, such as power yoga, team sport training, and outdoor running sessions. Vince and Lori stand by the suspension bands' capacity to tone muscle and hone balance, effects that have made it the preferred workout of acrobat moving companies. During routines, instructors demonstrate modifications for all strength levels to ensure every guest can flex safely and comfortably.
