People say protein is an integral part of a healthy diet, but at Salon Des Amis, stylists don?t feed it to clients?they slather their hair in it. Brazilian blowouts coat each strand in protective protein, thereby minimizing frizz, enhancing shine, and boosting manageability. Besides the protein-rich blowout formula, stylists also ply tresses with products from American Crew, Sebastian, and Rusk as they snip face-flattering cuts, paint in color, and craft stylish, gravity-defying updos.
Even before Rodney Wilkins cuts a single hair on his clients' heads, he's already hard at work. By first assessing their face shape, skin tone, and grooming routine, he's able to determine the most compatible haircut and hair color for each person. His clients range from children to senior citizens, and request such specialty services as keratin treatments, perms, and juice, and Rodney does his best to expertly address each unique appointment by calling on 16 years of professional experience.

Certain hairstyles look good on certain facial shapes. When a client asks for a haircut you know will be a mismatch for them, how do you handle it?
Even if we do not mention it in the consultation, we are always looking at facial shapes and how best to tie in the hairstyle. Usually it is a little tweak here and there to make a hairstyle work, and we will have a two way conversation on how we are going to proceed for best results.
Part of being a good stylist is mastering the art of conversation. What are some pro tips for talking to strangers?
Sometimes it is [better] to listen than talk; however most hairstylist are people persons and like to talk a lot. We want to make sure we talk about your hair or lashes and make sure we are letting you know how to style it at home.
Is there anything else you want to add that we didn't cover?
We have a unique 16-chair salon on the second floor of our building that we treat as a loft space. We also have local artists display their work which changes periodically. We keep our prices at a comfortable mid-price point and high-quality, well-trained stylists. We have a 50-50 ratio of men and women clients.
With more than 20 years of experience under her belt, Preserve Barbers' owner Debbie leads a licensed team in grooming gentlemanly countenances with traditional barber techniques. The staff trims manly strands into a variety of traditional cuts, which can be augmented with shampoo cleansings to leave hair fresh and impurity-free. Hot-lather shaves soften beards with soothing and moisturizing suds, preparing each bristle for a clean shave that leaves jawlines smooth and mouthy freckles appropriately threatened. Amid a lilac-colored waiting area equipped with a classic barber's pole, a selection of Crew styling products stands guard, ready to be purchased for at-home hair maintenance.
Melanie Foster focuses her talents on clients? peepers. The certified Lavish Lashes technician applies up to 100 individual lashes per eye, bulking up fringe and adding enough length to properly flutter and braid.
