PADI instructor Bob Henry dove in the Caribbean, South America, and other tropical locales, but he always returned to his home base—B & W Dive Co., a scuba shop he founded in 1991. Since the ‘90s, his children Amber and Warren have taken the reins, carrying on their dad’s legacy by organizing dive trips and helping students earn their PADI certifications. The shop’s classes cover topics beyond open-water diving, though; they can introduce pupils to scuba basics, such as breathing underwater without trading in their ability to breathe on land, or focus on snorkeling and swimming. Visitors can also outfit themselves for solo underwater journeys with dependable aquatic gear, culled from makers such as Oceanic, Tusa, and Sealife.

Malibu Water Park isn’t your average water park. The six-acre outdoor swimming hole tucks neatly into scenic surroundings. Happy shouts echo across sandy beaches and verdant foliage. Three waterslides zig-zag down the banks of the lake, sending riders careening into the water like boring books thrown from a sailboat. For the younger set, there are interactive mushroom-shaped spray features in the shallow water. Colorful kayaks, canoes, and paddle boats slip out onto the 50-acre lake, whose tree-lined shores beg to be explored. On the weekends, guests circle around bonfires and enjoy BYOB picnics at available barbecue pits while bands play. Catering is available upon request.
With 8 years as a Navy man and 19 years as a martial artist under his belt, Jonathan Brown knows a thing or two about staying in shape. During his military career, he helped his fellow soldiers keep in peak physical condition with his training sessions. At Just Be Healthy, he widens the scope of his efforts to include civilians. With a healthy respect for physiology and the wisdom of a longtime athlete, he tempers his challenging workouts. "You shouldn't feel pain while working out," he says, "You put yourself at risk of injuring yourself. Workout at 85% at most. 75% is ideal."
Maintaining that level of intensity for one of Jonathan's entire workouts is still a no easy business. To help students stay energized, Jonathan turns to music. His workout soundtracks draw tunes from across continents and generations, as he plays everything from samba and capoeira's Brazilian rhythms to dubstep and metal.

All four limbs get in on the bag-bludgeoning action with iLoveKickboxing, as each class (a $15 value per class) provides a full-body workout that tones arm, leg, and tentacle muscles while tightening the body’s core and improving balance. Hitting the heavy bags won't skin your knuckles once you don the included boxing gloves, which also double as excellent spring-loaded props for re-creating Three Stooges gags. At the Houston location, classes take place Mondays at 7 p.m. and 8:15 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m., Wednesdays at 7 p.m., Fridays at 6:30 p.m, and Saturdays at 10:45 a.m. The Pasadena location has classes on Mondays and Wednesdays at 8:30 a.m. and 6:30 p.m., Tuesdays and Thursdays at 6:30 p.m., and Saturdays at 10 a.m, and the Baytown location has classes on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays at 6 p.m., and on Saturdays at 2 p.m.
