  • Fibre Studio The
The Fibre Studio's seasoned instructor guides fledgling knitters through yarn-taming techniques within a cozy classroom. The class informs students of basic knitting terminology and skills and warns against common beginner errors, such as knitting near sheared sheep. While completing the class project, a plain-edge or picot-edge garter-stitch washcloth, students grasp an understanding of the fundamental cast-on, knit-stitch, purl-stitch, and bind-off techniques. The studio supplies classes with the appropriate 100% cotton yarn, needles, and patterns and awards students with 10% off its stock of natural and hand-dyed yarns to furnish future knitting projects of floppy hats and woolen tuxedos. The upcoming class schedule is listed here.

  • Wine and Canvas Huntersville
The artists at Wine and Canvas awaken their students’ inner Rembrandts and Van Goghs with classes that pair a featured painting with specialty cocktails and wines. The mobile studio’s monthly calendar includes themed classes in which instructors expound on the nuances of painting Parisian street lamps, Japanese flowers, or Venetian cityscapes. The master painters—many of them local artists—provide step-by-step instructions while students mimic each stroke and periodically dip their brushes into glasses filled with crimson cabernet. Each of the studio’s various drink-friendly venues boasts a specialty libation selected to incite creativity or conversations with fellow painters. When the artistic frenzy concludes, students return home with a finished masterpiece large enough to conceal any wall safe or mirror portal.

  • Innergy Works
Valerie Gregory understands what it's like to struggle with injury. She had to retire from her career as a paramedic after sustaining a back injury on the job. Despite the setback, it led her to a second career as a holistic massage therapist. She finds that the most common injury her clients face is muscle over-use, so she knows how important it is for them to be able to return to work, sports, exercise, or competitive somersaulting as quickly as possible. Today, at Innergyworks Total Body, she helps clients deal with chronic pain and mobility issues through massage, Pilates instruction, and ART, a soft-tissue manipulation technique. Innergyworks also caters to those who look to attaining a fitness lifestyle after 50, whether they're coming back to fitness or it's their first attempt.
