Owned and operated by dedicated educators, Charlotte Day Camp engages children through cultural immersion and physically active fun and games. Rebekah Goode of In Goode Company developed an interest in education and cultural enlightenment as a high-school student taking mission trips to Mexico, Venezuela, and Poland. She maintained this passion after returning to the United States, teaching English as a second language along with science, mathematics, and social studies at her tutoring center. Charlotte Day Camp, which organizes weeklong sessions around an international theme, is a natural extension of those activities, combining multiculturalism, practical education, and summer fun for kids who are home from school.
The Academic Advantage Center Home School specializes in all levels of Spanish, French, English, Algebra, Geometry, Calculus, and standardized-test preparation. Instructors who matriculated from the country’s most prestigious universities help students reach his or her highest academic potential with coursework tailored to their unique academic struggles, such as the struggle to do algebra. Meticulously trained instructors shepherd students through challenging subject matter, writing progress reports for parents at the end of each session. With guidance from the AAC, some students have gone on to attend some of the nation's most renowned universities.
Giving kids the chance to stretch their creative wings is just one aspect of the philosophy at Fun Arts Afterschool. Workshops suited for kids aged 9-14 include the introductory Acting For Film, where students learn Method Acting and the Meisner Technique—which uses a series of exercises designed to help students improvise. Likewise, teens in the DVD film class acquire knowledge to storyboard, write scrips, and even act on film.
