It's not every 5K run in which participants look like they've been tie-dyed by the end of it. But most runs are not this much fun either. As runners put one foot in front of the other during Color My Run, volunteers cover them with colorful dust, adding extra joy and a bit of silliness to an event where your finishing time isn't everything. That sense of joy also extends to the charitable recipient of each event as well, which is often a children's hospital.

Whether they're celebrating the wearing o' the green on St. Patrick's Day, organizing booze-filled scavenger hunts, or conjuring up the spirits of Halloween parties yet to come, the event organizers at Lazyday Charlotte know how to throw a rad party. Partnering with top Charlotte bars including Whisky River, Prohibition, and Roxbury, they negotiate the drink specials and themed activities that turn bar outings into outright bashes. Grammy-nominated bassist John Brown and his band delight audiences with jazzy, jubilant tunes and an inter-musician chemistry that has garnered the group an award at the Full Frame Documentary Film Festival for its short film on recording music. During a traveling Christmas concert, the band grooves through a playlist of classic holiday favorites and original pieces, including an a cappella reading of John Brown's Christmas list. While Brown lends his internationally admired plucking to the score, a troupe of trombones, saxes, and guitars dusts off Christmas carols and sends them high-kicking and Lindy-hopping through the theater.

The King of Rock and Roll never relinquishes his throne as four of the country’s top Elvis impersonators team together for Elvis Lives, a multimedia musical tribute to one of music’s premier icons. Endorsed by Elvis Presley Enterprises, which holds the copyright on blue suede shoes, Elvis Lives stars a quartet of bona fide dead ringers, all of whom are winners of the Ultimate Elvis Tribute Artist Contest and pay homage to four memorable eras of the pompadour-sporting legend’s career. Fans can swoon and shout as they catch a glimpse of tadpole Elvis and his centrifugal pelvis, movie-era Elvis, leather-jacket “comeback” Elvis, and shimmering, sequined-jumpsuit “Vegas” Elvis. The lavishly-produced show quantum leaps across a memorable career with classic songs sung spot-on, delighting fans and warming the heart of the real Elvis as he watches from the rafters.

The artists at Wine and Canvas awaken their students’ inner Rembrandts and Van Goghs with classes that pair a featured painting with specialty cocktails and wines. The mobile studio’s monthly calendar includes themed classes in which instructors expound on the nuances of painting Parisian street lamps, Japanese flowers, or Venetian cityscapes. The master painters—many of them local artists—provide step-by-step instructions while students mimic each stroke and periodically dip their brushes into glasses filled with crimson cabernet. Each of the studio’s various drink-friendly venues boasts a specialty libation selected to incite creativity or conversations with fellow painters. When the artistic frenzy concludes, students return home with a finished masterpiece large enough to conceal any wall safe or mirror portal.
