“Stocky.” Justin Yule remembers when others used this adjective to describe him, an observation he considered to be a nice way of saying that he was overweight. It wasn’t until his dad invited him to work out at the gym that Justin discovered a passion for fitness and a desire to chisel away the stockiness he carried. Since achieving his goals, he has kept up his fit physique more than 22 years.
Justin also channeled his passion into a bachelor’s of science in physical education with a concentration in adult fitness. He used his extensive training to devise the curriculum for Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp, which he also founded. Justin calls his program the “fitness revolution,” mainly because it breaks exercisers out of the tedious routines they often fall into at the gym or when their friend Sisyphus asks them to push his rock and promises he’ll only be gone for five minutes. Every one of Justin’s workout moves come in three levels, each scaled to challenge exercisers of different strengths and experience levels. He also relies heavily on body-weight resistance exercises, and coaches provide guidance and support to clients in reaching their goals.
Justin considers the most valuable part of his program to be the camaraderie that he encourages among his participants in and out of the boot-camp classroom. He organizes charity events and parties so that groups can mingle and become a cohesive unit working toward a single goal. To further ease his clients’ path to fitness, he also offers nutrition programs, online exercises and tips, and education in the form of newsletters and fitness books that he’s penned himself.
After having her first baby, Kelly Altman had not only gained 54 pounds, she no longer had the time to train for marathons, her preferred form of exercise. She needed a post-baby workout that burned fat more efficiently than running, and she found it in a boot-camp regimen.
To share her newfound passion, she started Altman Fitness, a boot camp-centered fitness studio. She co-owns the studio with her husband, Jay, who has spent more than 15 years in the fitness industry. The duo specializes in well-rounded workouts that incorporate cardio, resistance-band work, and agility drills as effective as trying to live undetected among hummingbirds. To complement their ever-changing boot-camp routines and personal-training sessions, the Altmans also create custom nutrition programs for their clients, based on metabolic typing.
The inspiring trainers with MetaBody lead troops of workouteers in results-oriented workouts several times weekly. Fun sweat sessions utilize a variety of exercises and disciplines to produce full-body results in a supportive environment ideal for both beginners and hard-core core-hardeners alike. During any class, motivational instructors will use your instinctual distrust of routine to their advantage. Begin a day of litigating with a refreshing early-morning boot-camp session, or wind down by burning evidence and pounds with a late-evening yoga class. Muscles are kept guessing with new and challenging moves during each session, so participants never fall into a boring, ineffective routine, such as regular teeth brushing. In addition to the fitness classes, students receive a success guide to help prepare for imminent pound loss, a nutrition guide, and a $100 gift certificate for individual coaching. Since the pass sets a five-class cap at any given location, roving fitness mavens can further shake up their workout regimen by vetting a series of classes or instructors that work best for them.
Based on the idea that the most effective workout is one that is completely customized, Koko FitClub’s patented Smartraining sessions gather data about each client’s fitness level and use it to individually tailor workouts. The Smartraining software relies on two things to personalize a workout: a personalized electronic data key for each member and smart machines capable of reading the information on that key.
The key remembers all the workouts its owner has ever done, and it recommends exercises based on the level of fitness it has observed. The machines read those recommendations and literally coach people through strength and cardio exercises, using video screens to describe proper form and set the pace. The resulting computer-created regimen continues to adapt as clients get fitter or spontaneously sprout extra limbs. The program makes it easy for beginners to start a new fitness program without feeling overwhelmed, so they can transform their bodies free from the anxieties of standard exercise routines. Koko FitClub even offers complimentary sessions to let potential members become acquainted with the futuristic fitness technology.
Koko also personalizes nutrition, giving each member a custom Koko Fuel meal plan that details the exact quantity and type of foods needed to fuel their body. The plans teach people what to eat to burn fat, build lean muscle, or boost metabolism.
