Maplezone Sports Institute has a straightforward mission: creating a safe training environment for athletes of all ages. It's not as simple as it may sound, though—for one, it requires a lot of real estate. The Institute contains tens of thousands of square feet of training space, between the Academy building, the Fieldhouse building, and currently-in-construction Sports Village. Within the space, they have a skilled set of expert coaches overseeing one-on-one or small group lessons in baseball, softball, lacrosse, and soccer. In addition to teaching the specific techniques needed to play the sports, such as ball-handling, bat swinging, and victory dancing, the coaches help their clients to both get stronger, move faster, and feel better.

The three fun centers give energetic cubs a place to stretch their legs and giggle their lungs out by housing a variety of amusing, aerobic activities. Roller skaters twirl and glide during International Sports Centre's and Deptford Skating's public skating hours, turning ordinary weekend afternoons into carefree roller romps. Feet ditch roller skates for socks inside FunZone, a multilevel maze of nets, slides, and monkey bars that spurs boisterous rounds of lava tag. Adventure Alley also occupies lively limbs, this time with bouncy inflatable playgrounds, such as Roo's giant slide, a popular alternative to doing algebra on a trampoline. Only children ages 10 and under are allowed in FunZone and Adventure Alley.

Philadelphia Sport and Social Club places athletically minded individuals into leagues, offering six levels of play, from recreational to fiercely competitive. Sports range from men's indoor basketball to outdoor favorites such as coed soccer and coed hockey, played with bladeless skates on the dry, frictional equivalent of ice—a floor. Meeting at several facilities throughout Philadelphia, most sports' seasons consist of 6–10 games and one round of single-elimination playoffs, culminating in prizes for the victors, such as long-sleeve T-shirts and, for kickball champions, a pageant of apologies from former playground bullies.

As the only professional coed team sport in the continental United States, Alaska, and Hawaii, World TeamTennis provides tennis enthusiasts with an adventurous approach to match play. A single match consists of two teams made up of high-ranking men's and women's professionals. These four-player teams (two men and two women) battle one another across a five-set gauntlet—the one-on-one onslaught of men's and women's singles, the low-five-laden lusciousness of men's and women's doubles, and the gender-juxtaposed jubilation of mixed doubles. Whoever wins the majority takes home bragging rights and, possibly, temporary immortality. This year's Philadelphia Freedoms roster features fast-serving superstar Andy Roddick alongside pros such as Ramon Delgado and Courtney Nagle.
