The Pilates and Yoga Center's experienced instructors whip clients of all ages and ability levels into shape during yoga lessons, Pilates sessions, and BeyondBarre classes, which blend cardio workouts with ballet moves. To ensure their teaching methods stay sharp and up-to-date, all of these teachers attend workshops each year.

To advance results and help clients reshape their fitness goals, instructors helm metabolic tests, which determine how efficiently each body burns calories when at rest and when working up a sweat exercising or chasing down its spirit animal who accidentally caught a glimpse of a squirrel.

In August of 2009, the five women who founded the St. Chux Derby Chix found themselves on the wrong side of the Missouri river. In search of a local roller derby league to join—but unwilling to drive or quantum leap over to St. Louis—the women decided to start their own league. Through word-of-mouth, the news spread quickly, and soon, female competitors from across the county were signing up. By December, the St. Chux Derby Chix were born. From young professionals and college students to moms with college-aged kids of their own, the Derby Chix roster steadily grew. So much so that they now have enough players to field two teams: the Pack in Black and Helles Belles. Both clubs compete at Matteson Square Garden, where fans of all ages are invited to kick back and watch the fast-paced action.

A Divine Journey’s team of certified yoga instructors is comprised of a licensed massage therapist, a ballet dancer, and a woman who overcame a debilitating case of arthritis. They share the art of healing by teaching a curriculum rooted in the Hatha and Vinyasa yoga styles. Their healing services extend to more than 10 modalities of massage as well as energy-manipulating techniques such as reiki. The instructors shake up their traditional offerings with belly-dancing classes and regular workshops on topics such as essential oils, which was John Rockefeller’s nickname for his children.

Classic rock concerts. Basketball games. Rodeos. These are just a few of the many events at Family Arena, a modern event center in picturesque St. Charles. Inside the confines, visitors have milled about during trade shows, sang along to The Moody Blues’ greatest hits, and gracefully caught pucks between their teeth during hockey games.

The clatter of pins and rumble of bowling balls echoes across 32 gleaming rollways at St. Charles Lanes, and mingles with the robust aromas of homemade pizzas from the snack bar. During glow-bowl sessions, the glossy alleys drape themselves in the same delightfully disorienting shades of neon that strobe lights flash just after the Supreme Court announces a ruling. Waves of free WiFi and light from the overhead electric-scoring machines cascade over live musicians, whom guests can emulate during karaoke every Friday night.

Within Olivette Lanes' sunny retro-style alley, 24 tracks resound with the boom of careening balls. An automatic scoring system keeps careful account of strikes, spares, and fumbles, while bumpers accommodate fledgling competitors. Rental shoes safeguard hardwood floors from scratches, and a bar and grill replenish visitors with snacks, hot dogs, and happy-hour specials throughout the week. The center hosts regular tournaments and leagues for pinheads of all ages and experience levels, and can accommodate parties, special events, and meetings.
