Artist Jeffery Lyle Segal discovered his passion for drawing at age 12. By high school he’d mastered makeup application, and by college he found himself teaching makeup-application courses, eventually commanding the classrooms of Empire Academy in Costa Mesa and the Cinema Makeup School in LA. Along the way, the steady-handed professional worked as a special-effects makeup artist for film, theater, and print, honing his beauty-application techniques on models and willing key grips. It wasn't until 1991, however, that he found the perfect merger between his appreciation for fine art and love of beautiful faces in the world of permanent makeup. Today, he's renowned as an expert in the field and has served for more than 20 years as a certified member of the Society of Permanent Cosmetic Professionals and as a fellow of the American Academy of Micropigmentation. He strives to help women look their naturally beautiful best and literally wrote the book on the subject, penning his design prowess into a highly regarded training program titled, The Shape of Permanent Beauty.

As the saying goes, "an artist is only as good as his tools," and so Segal favors high-end equipment such as the digital German cosmetic-tattooing devices from Harmonix and Nouveau Contour. Beyond making makeup routines easy for busy folks or those with poor vision or cosmetic sensitivities, his talents can also be used to help correct asymmetrical features, sparse hair or brow lines, scars, or discolored areolas following breast surgery.

When she was an independent contractor styling for modeling agencies and photographers, Anita Arsova found herself working with many of the same beauty experts time and again. She worked so well with them and respected them so highly that the only logical next step was to open a salon where they could all work together on a regular basis. With that, she established Arsova Salon, where she and that same team of celebrity stylists work toward a single vision of beauty. They call on products from Aveda, Davines, and Moroccanoil to cut, color, and shape timeless hairstyles for their clients, and also perform voluminous updos and "bombshell" blowouts designed to make clients the center of attention at any formal gala or cramped movie theater. The salon staff might excel at forging outer beauty, but inner confidence is their central goal. "If you leave our salon and you're not smiling with bouncing hair and feeling swagger," says Anita, "then we haven't done our jobs right."
