Danny Salas believes that you can tell that dogs are happy, healthy, and well-behaved when they're tired. Conversely, if they bark excessively, chew up shoes, and dig holes, it's probably because they haven't received enough attention and exercise. That's why this marathon runner started Dogtastic Walking & Running Services—to give bored, out-of-shape dogs a solid 30-minute workout.
After volunteering with a rescue shelter, Salas rehabilitated a neglected pitbull named Philadelphia creating a regimen of regular running and walking. Salas works alongside David Orozco, a trainer and groomer with 10 years of experience, including a stint at an exotic zoo. His American Staffordshire terrier has several UKC-show wins, appeared on television commercials, and is currently dating an heir to the Lassie fortune. When this duo isn't sprinting alongside tail-waggers, they clean up sullied yards. They also groom dogs.
Since 1988, Pet Supplies Plus has welcomed millions of furry critters of every stripe—from llamas and monkeys to potbellied pigs—into their animal-friendly stores. The shop is designed so that both pets and their owners can easily navigate the inventory of more than 10,000 items. Wide aisles give leashed pups enough room to roam, colorful signage keeps shoppers moving in the right direction, and low shelves allow dogs to sniff out their preferred brand of rawhide chew. A self-serve dog wash enables guests to scrub their canine companions' coats to a youthful, puppy-like shine, whereas grooming services enlist professionals to tackle tougher jobs, such as brushing out matted fur or convincing dalmatians to stop mixing white and black after Labor Day.
The experienced caretakers at Dog's Life on Damen work to receive the optimum number of approving tail wags through full-service daycare and boarding accommodations. With extensive training in group-behavior management, the canine concierge team analyzes personalities before placing four-legged friends into suitable play groups. While interacting with dogs of similar sizes and personalities, patrons' pets trot across 3,000 square feet of fenced outdoor play area. The pet specialists provide all necessary care to accommodate the daily schedules of each furry guest, administering medication and extra walks by request at no extra charge. In addition, visiting pooches enjoy a relaxing midday nap in a private area complete with bedding, fresh water, and a soothing broadcast of Robert Frost poems that have been translated into barks.
