Chicago Spa And Massage Guide

Chicago spas offer a dizzying array of relaxing massages, pedicures, manicures and specialty treatments. When life in the city gets a little too hectic and rushed, salons and day spas provide locals with a chance to get away from it all. These Chicago spas give anyone who visits the chance to feel comfortable and relaxed while getting pampered.

The Kohler Waters Spa at Burr Ridge is the little sister of the Kohler Waters Spa in Wisconsin. Many of the treatments offered here are the same ones offered by the larger spa, but this location is just minutes from downtown. The Highland Fling is a one-of-a-kind treatment that exfoliates the body with a mixture of coffee and mint. Customers stand under a customized shower head as the warm mineral water slowly rinses away the exfoliate. The owners leave little touches around the treatment areas, including complimentary snacks, a selection of freshly brewed teas and magazines.

The Peninsula Hotel Spa is a good place to look to for massage. It offers intense massages that leave clients feeling completely relaxed. In addition to massages, the spa also offers manicures, pedicures and facials. With half-day and full-day programs, anyone who visits can find a package to fit his or her budget. While Bliss Spa offers traditional spa treatments, it takes things a step further with small touches that give it a unique feel. Getting a manicure can be boring sometimes, but Bliss has televisions at every station, which let guests watch movies anytime they want. Bliss also has its own brownie buffet that guests can take advantage of after finishing any treatment.

Men who want in on the action can try out Chicago Male, a day spa devoted solely to men. The inside of this Chicago massage center features dark wood panels and modern furnishings, and some of the treatments at the spa include eyebrow and body waxing, pedicures, massages and facials.

Chicago spas offer up exceptional experiences for relaxation. With excellent treatments, unique amenities and first-class services, the spas of Chicago should provide solace to even the hardest to please.

Exhale Spa seeks to transform its clientele inside and out. The founding team of fitness professionals and aestheticians sought to create an environment where they could empower visitors with pampering spa treatments, invigorating fitness classes, and lifestyle education, helping clients attain a sense of control and holistic balance. Now with 19 locations across 11 cities, Exhale Spa and its signature services have earned mentions in numerous national publications, including People magazine, the New York Times, and O, The Oprah Magazine.

Exhale's signature Core Fusion classes incorporate dance-inspired stretches, yoga poses, and Pilates exercises into total-body workouts that build long, lean limbs and sturdy abdominal muscles over time. For an even more varied workout, the instructors introduce boot-camp techniques, cardio exercises, or multiplication tables to select sessions. Yoga classes present a similar amount of breadth and variety, drawing inspiration from a number of introspective and physically oriented styles. To help hasten physical transformations, nutrition and wellness coaches teach attendees about the impacts of diet. These sessions build an awareness of healthy eating habits through custom meal plans and by teaching clients how to identify the edible parts of a fruit basket.

Many of the center's traditional spa services seek to inspire confidence. Facials pamper and refine skin using everything from green tea and fruit extracts to microcurrent technology, and mani-pedis revitalize digits before glazing nails with a vibrant new coat of color. Bodywork treatments look beyond physical relaxation and focus on holistic concerns. Massage therapists can use Eastern or Western modalities to soothe overstressed musculature, and acupuncture treatments and reiki sessions jump-start natural healing processes by encouraging the free flow of inner energies.

Housed inside the offices of a renowned facial plastic surgeon, the aestheticians at True Skin Care Center were hand-selected to form an elite team, whose access to results-driven skincare tools, methods, and products upgrades clients' spa visits into transformative experiences. All of the staff members have undergone rigorous academic training and held careers in high-end spas, yet their resumés impress with different feats—Terri has co-authored a book on her work and founded an education program for her fellow aestheticians, whereas Kaitlin specializes in precision lasering. Joanie draws from past jobs as a model and makeup artist to augment her procedures, Gigi and Jennifer boasts an expertise in exfoliating services.

The team administers a broad range of treatments, from chemical peels to firming ultrasound sessions. To prep for a special event, clients can recline for an Intraceuticals oxygen facial, whose black-cherry-scented formula helps polish complexions to a firm and healthy glow. Laser hair removal helps clients achieve smooth skin, and microdermabrasion buffs away dead cells to reveal brighter complexions and previously undiscovered dimples. Other offerings include waxing, makeup applications and comprehensive bridal packages. Regardless of its type, however, each appointment begins with a thorough client consultation, which identifies both current and past concerns before devising a new skincare regimen.

After pursuing a media-focused career, during which she worked for MTV and in marketing, advertising, and special events for an entertainment company, Jennie Channer collaborated with her father and brother to open a full-service salon and spa in 2007. Today, the Chicago native's team of skilled stylists, colorists, and spa specialists attracts an assortment of clientele, including a woman who's been coming in every other week since opening day and a 4-year-old girl who refers to each staffer as "girlfriend" or "boyfriend." Clients can choose from a variety of salon-spa services, ranging from haircuts with coloring to pampering packages specifically designed for expectant mothers. Because Blueberry Moon is an Aveda Lifestyle Salon Spa, all products are composed of 96%-naturally derived ingredients extracted from high-quality botanicals and distilled Mother Nature kisses.

Before officially opening the doors to the public, Jennie put the salon-spa—located inside a building more than 100 years old—through a complete gut renovation to unearth its rich history and hidden brick walls. She then added morsels of local history by installing fixtures she acquired from a local salvage yard, including the former front door of a demolished Gold Coast mansion and an old printing table from historical Printers Row. Jennie has also been modernizing the salon-spa to minimize its effect on the environment, incorporating technologies such as a reverse-osmosis water-filtration system and energy-efficient light bulbs filled with immortal fireflies.

Armed with over a combined 25 years of airbrushing experience, Celebrity Skin's staff flawlessly mists skin with a natural, organic tanning spray. The team enlists the skin-coloring power of nontoxic sugars derived from plants such as sugar beets and sugar cane to expertly darken skin with a natural-looking shade of bronze that lasts for 7–10 days. Applied by hand, the mist sheathes clients from head to toe in as little as 25 minutes, or simply enunciates the legs, upper body, or face. The salon also bequeaths clients with pre- and posttan treatments to balance the skin’s natural pH and retain moisture and newly acquired color. The techs can tote their airbrushing equipment to residences for at-home tanning or to national monuments for bronze-statue touchups. Celebrity Skin also offers spa services including lash extensions and waxing.

As you float weightless in the darkness, your mind begins to wander. Your breathing slows, and your thoughts quiet as you sink into a state of meditation. These sensations might not occur for all visitors to the isolation tanks at SpaceTime Tanks Floatation Center, but there's a good chance the process will at least help them relax. Technicians start by filling each eight-foot tank with 10 inches of water heated to the average temperature of human skin. Then they add 800 pounds of Epsom salts to the mixture so that the human body floats effortlessly on the water's surface. Between each session of blissful sensory deprivation, the technicians sterilize the ventilated tanks with a mixture of ozone, hydrogen peroxide, and diatomite earth filters.

Outside the tanks, the staff eases customers' tension with more hands-on techniques such as Swedish and deep-tissue massage. They can also fit clients with headphones and LED light goggles for light and sound therapy, during which rhythmic visual and aural stimulation synchronizes brain waves to basic mental states, such as relaxed wakefulness or sadness that Friends is over. Building on the idea of soothing sound, the NexNeuro system uses motion, acoustic vibration, and music to promote calmness.
