As a child, Amber Fallon discovered an old film camera in a dusty closet. It may have not looked like much at the time, but it was the spark that would ignite her imagination and passion for the rest of her life. That one tiny discovery lead her to eventually graduate from Las Vegas Academy of Performing and Visual Arts before continuing her education at the School of Visual Arts in New York City, where she mastered digital, film, and studio photography. Today she wields that expertise to capture all the magic of weddings, families, and people. Specializing in weddings and portraiture, she infuses all of her unique images with her contemporary fine-art-meets-edgy style.
Dennis Mock's self-proclaimed spontaneity and documentary spirit have earned him dozens of local and national awards from photographers associations and national camera companies. His background in sports photography allows him to capture split-second moments of joy or truly spectacular action passes of familial play, and his experience in architectural photography gives him a natural sense of composition—whether he’s at parks, beaches, or shooting a newborn session in his professionally lit studio. Before each shoot, he discusses costuming and venue choice with clients to decide how and where to best capture the earnest smiles of graduates and high school seniors, the savvy stare during business head shots, the doting looks of parents, the proud family and kid moments, and the uninterested glances of celebrity trees. When he's not out taking photos, Dennis is busy helping others hone their composition and lighting skills during photography workshops that cover everything from camera functions to digital editing and the importance of storytelling.
Bearing the titles of Master of Photography and Photographic Craftsman from Professional Photographers of America, David and Ally McKay embody the keen vision and aesthetic prowess that separated good photographers from great ones. They share these skills during classes at McKay Photography Academy, where they train eyes, fingers, and imaginations to work in tandem as a snapshooting dream machine. Their classes help aspiring photographers progress from neophytes to seasoned pros; the Beginning Digital Photography course teaches students to harness the intricacies of their instruments, and the Pro Academy offers inside tips on how to successfully snap wedding portraits, pose recent grads, or tease out candid emotions. When not busy instructing the next generation of shutterbugs, David and Ally also devise photo safaris, which send small teams of photographers to capture shots of famed landmarks including San Francisco's Golden Gate Bridge; the Lincoln Memorial of Washington, DC; or Yosemite's 60-foot statue of Yogi Bear.
In 1991, the eponymous founder of Losina Art Center, Olya Losina, moved to La Jolla from Moscow, where she was raised among a vibrant artistic community and served as the art director for the Soviet Union's largest multilingual publishing facility. Losina's fine-art methods, which she honed while obtaining her master's degree at Moscow University, focus on teaching art as a science. While helping her students at the center to work toward mastery of portraiture, the human form, landscapes, and still-life subjects, she performs exercises that aim to reach them on a subconscious level. Together with Losina, the students examine the conscious thoughts that often intrude upon creative expression. They approach the artistic consciousness as a surgeon would approach a brain when trying to dislodge catchy pop tunes from the frontal lobe. With obstructions cleared, pupils find themselves able to work freely and efficiently.
