Sometimes lessons in the classroom don’t fully sink in. That’s where the certified instructors of Nia Educational Services come in. Through both private and small-group tutoring sessions, they adopt an approach that combines research, regular evaluation meetings with school teachers, and instructional strategies that help students overcome difficulties in grammar, algebra, or reading. In addition to offering literacy consulting to local schools, the instructors also aid their pupils in finally catching the neighborhood dog that ate their homework.
At Neusole Glassworks, gurus of all stripes and skill levels come together to fuse, blow, and mold glass both for independent projects and classes that explore the art form. The nonprofit facility sets the stage for inspired creation with flame-working, hotshop, and fusing studios that help the crew and their pupils transform raw materials into polished paperweights, unique pendants, and colorful new windshields. Upstairs, Neusole Glassworks invites browsers to tote pieces home from the gift shop or let their eyes feast on the myriad colors and textures at Atmosphere @ Neusole—a gallery for emerging artists and the facility’s students. In addition to welcoming anyone into its facility, Neusole Glassworks dispatches a mobile glassblowing studio to enliven street fairs and churn out slippers for palace dance parties.

Helmed by a team of local artists, Your Artistic Spirits holds informal visual-arts consortia in local venues such as Bier Brewery, Black Swan Brewpub, and Bodega. At each location, they welcome participants of all skill levels and disciplines to sip wine, beer, or spirits as they make art focused in a range of artistic styles, from neoclassical busts to avant-garde booms. Instructors guide attendees through step-by-step instruction to create original works in one chosen medium, such as acrylics, watercolors, sculpting clay, or papier-mâché. When not conducting public classes and private parties, artistic staffers lead team-building workshops and art-therapy programs for children and adults.
Neither instructor at Salsannati expected a career in dance. Ivana, a native of Croatia, only started dancing in 2004; Frederic, on the other hand, started when he was just 8 years old and spent his teenage years teaching others but never enlisted in any formal training. Their mutual passion is what fuels Salsannati, where they teach beginners and advanced dancers the art of salsa. Classes typically center around basic steps, turns, and footwork combinations as foundations for more advanced moves.
