Established in 1994 as a professional African dance company, Bi-Okoto Cultural Centre helps spread awareness and appreciation of African heritage—and other cultures—through a variety of classes and programs. Classes include lessons in martial arts, Zumba fitness and Salsa dancing, and practice in West African drumming and dance. Along with the nonprofit centre's classes and outreach programs, Bi-Okoto continues to support its traditional dance company, which performs and tours throughout the United States and around the world.
At The Pet Spot, a team of over 30 animal-loving dog and cat specialists train and groom the furry guests of their day care and kennel. Felines will vacation in luxury cat condos while their human roommates are out of town, while dogs enjoy plenty of belly rubs, baths, and exercise during daycare and boarding. Each kennel room is climate-controlled and replete with elevated beds, glass windows, and flatscreen televisions showing dog-related programming and local news translated into barks.
The professional animal chaperones go to great lengths to ensure the safety of each pet—they carry out extensive temperament tests to prevent fights, and webcams for owners to check in on their furry friends remotely.
Norwood Custom Glass's owner and experienced glass molder Stan Sabick instructs budding crafters in a bevy of glass-forming techniques, operating a gallery to show off his own translucent creations. A two-hour hot-glass fused-pendant workshop includes all the frits, stringers, dichroic scraps, and pronunciation guides for the aforementioned materials to forge thoroughly fashionable trinkets. After a quick trip to the kiln, newly minted pendants cheerfully accompany their creators home, where they can adorn swanlike necks and chic rearview mirrors. Classes include both day and night sessions for busy professionals and artistically inclined vampires.
A Forkable Feast provides an array of restaurant-quality meals packaged in microwave- and oven-safe containers, ready to be taken home, reheated, and devoured with all the ferocity of a sun-swallowing Fenris wolf. Because they allow you to learn the kind of ballroom dance you want to learn at your own pace, private lessons are the most effective and efficient way to grow a pair of happy feet. During your 50 minutes inside the bold red walls of Cincinnati's historic brick building in Oakley, your instructor will figure out the way you learn and keep the tone positive and fun no matter how many times you squash his or her toes. Cincinnati Ballroom's instructors are still competing and still winning, so you won't have to worry about being taught obsolete dance moves such as tango 2.1, which is highly vulnerable to viruses and spyware.
SheLax Nail Studio may be new, but Maria Desembly has been in the nail business for more than 11 years. A background in health care directs Maria's gentle, hygienic touch as she tidies up the fingers and toes of both men and women. After filing, shaping, and buffing, she can outfit all 20 tappers with basic polish or safeguard their shine with acrylics or Shellac, which resists chips, nicks, and the urge to plunge into freshly frosted birthday cakes for far longer.
