Bikram Yoga Claremont owner Joe Fuch first experienced yoga in 1975. After a winding career path that took him through multiple masters programs, a job as a library director, and a toxic work environment, he eventually found that [Bikram yoga] http://www.bikramyogaclaremont.com/theyoga.html) was the activity that brought him the most peace of mind and mental nourishment. Now as the owner of a yoga studio, he and his team of talented instructors guide others through the 26 poses that make up the Bikram style of yoga. Performed in a heated studio, Bikram is known for its ability to help detoxify the body, work deeper muscles, and help people determine if there is really a prince inside their snowman. And to accommodate their hardworking students, the studio has shower-equipped restrooms for rinsing off sweaty bodies.

Beneath Mount Baldy, which cuts a snowy wedge from the horizon, Claremont Golf Course's nine holes form a grassy emerald pool. Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden lies adjacent to the golf course, filling the air with the scents of native Californian flora and punishing players with penalty strokes for always using roses in their poetic metaphors. Totaling 1,915 yards from the back tees, with just one hole longer than 300 yards, the nine-hole executive course does not present a lengthy undertaking. Taken along with the lighted driving range and practice area, the comparatively short course is a great place for beginners to start out and for more experienced golfers to practice the short game or use their golf balls that bruise easily.

Course at a Glance:

  • Nine-hole, par 31 course
  • Total length of 1,915 yards from the back tees
  • Two sets of tees per hole

Plants, mankind’s greatest enemy, are finally on the ropes thanks to global warming. Teach your children how to hunt the last of these enormous nitrogen junkies by observing them in captivity with today's Groupon. For $30, you'll get a yearlong family membership to the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden (a $60 value). Founded in 1927, the garden is now the largest living museum exhibit of California’s native plants.

A family membership to the garden provides two adult membership cards, free admission for children of the household, a quarterly newsletter, a 10% discount in the Garden Shop, discounts on classes, early admission to plant sales, late release from plant variety shows, a one-year subscription to Better Homes and Gardens magazine, and more. Open year-round, the garden offers a rotating cast of floral stars depending on the season. The winter collection, ending in early March, features manzanitas, while spring will offer a colorful bouquet of spring wildflowers, perennials, and shrubs. During the summer and fall, the garden will parade an array of native fruits and seeds—in the winter, the garden will ice parade them.

Rancho Santa Ana supplements its seasonal offerings with a busy calendar of events that are educational and inspirational. On March 19, from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., Rancho Santa Ana will sell a variety of California native wildflowers that can turn any home garden into a home garden with California native wildflowers. From April 2-4, browse a special selection of Pacific Coast hybrid irises and coral bells. On May 7, come for National Public Gardens Day, or on May 23, observe Mafia Day by bringing the corpse of your favorite stoolie to fertilize the wild lilacs.

This Groupon is not available for current members of the Rancho Santa Ana Botanic Garden.

Balls fly across five courts at The Pacific Juniors Volleyball Club, where young sports enthusiasts play recreational volleyball and train to perform better. Volleyball programs target every type of player, from kids hoping to gain new skills to teens who want to spike balls on the beach, while camps and clinics test players' abilities. In the facility's weight room, members build endurance on a treadmill, strengthen muscles using free weights, or enjoy a faux picnic on the turf workout area.

Founded by instructor and former street performer Maria Bernhard, Pilates Studio M hones torsos and limbs with Pilates mat and circus-inspired aerial silk classes. Open to all ages, Pilates ($70 for five classes) helps students focus and breeds full-body discipline, as the deft articulation of extremities makes doing the robot more attainable. The core-focused one-hour sessions have been helpful in treating everyone from scoliosis patients to those in post-surgery rehab. Although long practiced by certain worms, humans only recently caught on to the health benefits of dangling from silk. Two-hour aerial classes ($40 each), taught by professional suspenders, let participants increase muscle tone and flexibility while bearing their own weight as they hang from silk bands.
