The staff at Asporea seeks to destress guests with a slate of body wraps and customized full-body massages. To unearth stubborn knots, the spa's massage therapists call on a variety of techniques, such as the strokes of effleurage, the percussive techniques of tapotement, and vibration, which relies on shaking sleeping muscles awake so they stop dreaming about human pretzels. Beyond their standard strokes, the professionals can augment massages with tension-melting hot stones and skin-softening paraffin wax.
One of 41 geographic sections that make up the PGA of America, the South Central PGA promotes enjoyment of golf and involvement in the game as the sport's ambassador to the states of Oklahoma, Arkansas, and much of Kansas. The association, which includes male and female golf professionals as well as a slew of courses, aims to spread the ideals of golf through high standards of professionalism, sportsmanship, integrity, and community involvement. A cornerstone of this mission involves introducing new generations to the sport through Junior Golf programs, which instill admirable attributes in youngsters to prepare them for life's rough patches and stealthy sprinkler heads.
Lori Alison’s daughter needed a cool bag for her first day of school. Because her daughter is in a wheelchair, Lori found herself lacking any good options, so she decided to fashion one herself. She sewed together an oilcloth bag that would meet all three of her daughter’s needs: fun, funky, and functional. This experience sparked Lori’s love of oilcloth as a medium and inspired her to transform her passion project into a home business, named Tatermash Oilcloth for her daughter's nickname. Today, all Lori's pieces are in oilcloth—a printed vinyl that can easily be cleaned with a towel and soap—and they range from totes and purses to diaper bags, aprons, cosmetic bags, and bags for gathering newly tapped oil. With two shops in the area, most products are made in Tulsa and sewn directly by the Tatermash staff, allowing for easy embroidery and customized orders.
For more than 47 years, Amir's Persian Imports has collected a vast array of silk and wool carpets brought over from the traditional centers of Persian-rug weaving. As a second-generation carpet importer, resident rug aficionado Kaveh has a near encyclopedic knowledge of his exotic wares and is able to opine about subtle differences between the patterns of Isfahan and Tabriz and how to cultivate a bumper crop of paisley. Guests choose from the colorful tapestries adorning the walls, floors, and ceilings, and cleaning technicians gently hand scrub floor adornments with a time-tested technique. Each hand woven work of art is steeped in thousands of years of rich cultural heritage, drawing from the unique styles and motifs of Shiraz, Mashdad, Kashan, and Baluch.
