For the past 150 years, college baseball players have been wowing fans with their athletic exploits. But not until 2009, when the nonprofit College Baseball Hall of Fame was founded, was there an entity to honor those achievements officially. Although its physical space hasn’t yet been built, the College Baseball Hall of Fame has already begun to celebrate the sport’s rich history. The institution expands awareness of college baseball through events such as a star-studded awards ceremony, in which they inaugurate the last season’s standouts into their elite ranks. As their fundraising goal nears completion, the Hall of Fame has planned its future museum, which will commemorate historical players and games and feature landmark memorabilia, such as the first baseball cap ever worn backwards.

The crack of bats and the ping of golf balls fill the air at The Range's outdoor-fun facility, home to a 52-tee driving range and cages with eight batting bays. The Range offers practice facilities seven days a week along with cool beer to quench players’ thirst, provided they are of age. Guests can tee up as late as 10:30 p.m. Monday–Saturday thanks to a lighted driving range that allows for nighttime practice and keeps golf-ball-stealing zombie gophers at bay.

YMCA of Amarillo has opened its doors to peoples of all faiths, races, income levels, and abilities since 1937. Today staffers continue to uphold the YMCA’s core values of honesty, acceptance, and fairness as they ensure each location is a safe place for members to play, exercise, and strengthen family bonds weakened by overzealous games of Monopoly. Adults can take aquatic, boot-camp, and Zumba classes or workout within fitness centers filled with cardio and strength-training equipment. Kids, meanwhile, can join in on youth basketball and soccer matches or stimulate their imagination, mental development, and growth in afterschool programs, homework-assistance sessions, and art classes. To help guests of all ages get in touch with their creative sides, local artists host writing groups, dance courses, and photography classes.

YMCA of Amarillo emphasizes the importance of cultural enrichment in their community as well—they partner with such community-based organizations as Boy Scouts of America, Lone Star Ballet, and Amarillo Opera. They also further strengthen the community by offering much-needed funding to children and families who cannot afford the full cost of any of these progressive programs.
