Father-and-son team Robert and Fred Lee worked as homebuilders for years before going into business selling lights in 1965, so they knew how quickly something impressive could rise from a humble foundation. Sure enough, Lee Lighting, their small family company, grew to include a vast online retail shop and one of the largest lighting dealers in Texas. They've even purchased Savoy, a company that designs fixtures to bring cheer to dining rooms and make rooms full of ventriloquist dummies less terrifying.
Lee Lighting stocks shelves with a diverse selection of indoor lamps from brands including ELK Lighting, Quoizel, and Hudson Valley. Staffers certified by the American Lighting Association move beneath the dazzling crystal sprays and faux candles of chandeliers. They suggest outdoor lighting to transform backyards into regal terraces. They also stay abreast of lighting trends to help patrons select lights that will stay in style.

At Arts Council Northeast's Summer Arts College, kids ages 6–15 embrace their inner artisans during classes on the visual arts, set design, and performance. Students arrive at Crown of Life Lutheran School each morning for five full-day (9 a.m.–3:30 p.m.) aesthetics-building sessions. In From Trash to Treasure, students repurpose useless items into a green masterpiece, as discarded movie stubs, plastics, and Cable Ace Awards find new life on the canvas. Drawing on the sketches and ideas of the children, mosaic classes combine their previous works into a wondrously motley mélange. Drama classes unlock the excitement of staging live theater, as kids explore acting through improvisation, monologues, and short scenes while learning the finer details of songwriting and playwriting. Between blocking movements and testing newly built trapdoors, drama-loving kids craft sets before performing a play they've written for friends and family on the last day of camp.
Nutrition and lifestyle coach Kay Smith discovered the healing potential of regular Pilates practice through her recovery from knee surgery, inspiring her to become a Stott certified Pilates instructor. The Stott Pilates method, modeled on scientific fitness and spinal rehabilitation techniques, uses an expertly designed machine to aid muscles in their quest for strength, flexibility, and an affordable live-in masseuse. Reformer classes last 55-minutes and are kept small, allowing instructors to gently guide students individually. This full body workout is safe enough for pregnant clients and challenging enough for Olympic-level yoga posers. Eight-person mat classes require that students bring their own mat and prepare for 50 minutes of core-strengthening moves designed to sculpt long, lean muscles. Mat classes are held Monday, Wednesday, and Friday at noon. Call ahead for the reformer schedule or to reserve a spot in either class.
All eight of the instructors at Turiya Yoga have an RYT 200 certification from Yoga Alliance, which means they have completed 200 hours of accredited yoga training. They put their experience to good use in an array of yoga classes, which center around the classic styles of Ashtanga, Hatha, Yin, and Vinyasa yoga. Most classes are open to all skill and fitness levels, except for the more challenging Ashtanga-yoga sessions, which require students to transition between more than 70 postures while peeling an avocado. Owner and instructor Melissa Prouty is also a certified birth doula and offers doula services and birthing workshops.
