The classes at Colorado Photography School cover just about every imaginable facet of modern photography, from buying and bonding with one's first DSLR to embarking on a wedding-photography career to finding yourself on the other side of the lens as a model. Software classes help you perfect images post-shoot by learning to use basic editing programs and Adobe Photoshop Lightroom rather than painting directly on your laptop screen. There are also subject-specific sessions on topics such as landscape photography?a special favorite of school founder Simon Andrews, who's managed to find time for plenty of wilderness excursions in his decade as a pro photographer.
Mark and Dorie Wexler?along with a talented staff of multicultural instructors?enthusiastically spread the irresistible rhythm of Latin beats through their signature Zumba fitness and salsa classes, earning their location the title of Best Dance Studio from Colorado Springs Independent in 2013 as well as Best Adult Dance Studio from the Gazette in 2014. The Wexlers view dance as a form of fitness rather than one of competition, allowing students to enjoy themselves and experiment without the fear of being rated or punched in the knees by ornery judges.
For 25 years, World of Dance has taught ballroom dances including the cha-cha, waltz, salsa, and foxtrot to students whose skill levels range from recreational to competitive. The studio’s approach is simple yet effective. Students typically start with one-on-one or group lessons so they can learn techniques and basic body positions. They then apply what they’ve practiced during the studio’s regular dance parties, performing the waltz to demonstrate their graceful new moves or the tango to fulfill their latent desires to chew on roses.
The class is small, a cluster of hard-working students lift their legs as an instructor walks around them to check posture and adjust forms. The instructors at ReVibe Pilates & Bodywork purposefully keep their Pilates classes intimate to ensure they can attend to each student in turn. This enables the teachers to better help their charges as they build core, arm, and leg muscles by performing exercises on the Reformer machines or on the mat.
In addition to mat and reformer classes, the team also leads Barre ReVibe sessions that use ballet-inspired exercises to create long and lithe physiques. Massage therapists, meanwhile, are on hand to help students recover from injury or stress with treatments such as Swedish massage, hot stone therapy, or group hugs.
Christian Gonzales has held some of the most stressful jobs on the planet. He worked aboard a commercial fishing vessel, snagging meat from the sea during 22-hour days of ceaseless labor. He saved lives as an emergency medical technician, lifting, transporting, and treating patients en route to the hospital. He brought that same mental discipline to his highly physical training as a United States Marine sergeant, helping younger recruits get into fighting shape. Now, he shares his lifetime of hard work and fitness with students through Trainers INC.
Christian takes an inside out approach to training, counseling his students that they must want to change their bodies before their bodies will begin to change. Once exercisers buy in, he throws them headlong into the fitness regimens that have served him throughout his life in personal training sessions, small group classes, and boot camps. He supplements the workouts with grocery education and nutritional counseling to save clients from overloading on calories or eating depressed carrots.
