Mark and Dorie Wexler?along with a talented staff of multicultural instructors?enthusiastically spread the irresistible rhythm of Latin beats through their signature Zumba fitness and salsa classes, earning their location the title of Best Dance Studio from Colorado Springs Independent in 2013 as well as Best Adult Dance Studio from the Gazette in 2014. The Wexlers view dance as a form of fitness rather than one of competition, allowing students to enjoy themselves and experiment without the fear of being rated or punched in the knees by ornery judges.

The class is small, a cluster of hard-working students lift their legs as an instructor walks around them to check posture and adjust forms. The instructors at ReVibe Pilates & Bodywork purposefully keep their Pilates classes intimate to ensure they can attend to each student in turn. This enables the teachers to better help their charges as they build core, arm, and leg muscles by performing exercises on the Reformer machines or on the mat. In addition to mat and reformer classes, the team also leads Barre ReVibe sessions that use ballet-inspired exercises to create long and lithe physiques. Massage therapists, meanwhile, are on hand to help students recover from injury or stress with treatments such as Swedish massage, hot stone therapy, or group hugs.

Christian Gonzales has held some of the most stressful jobs on the planet. He worked aboard a commercial fishing vessel, snagging meat from the sea during 22-hour days of ceaseless labor. He saved lives as an emergency medical technician, lifting, transporting, and treating patients en route to the hospital. He brought that same mental discipline to his highly physical training as a United States Marine sergeant, helping younger recruits get into fighting shape. Now, he shares his lifetime of hard work and fitness with students through Trainers INC. Christian takes an inside out approach to training, counseling his students that they must want to change their bodies before their bodies will begin to change. Once exercisers buy in, he throws them headlong into the fitness regimens that have served him throughout his life in personal training sessions, small group classes, and boot camps. He supplements the workouts with grocery education and nutritional counseling to save clients from overloading on calories or eating depressed carrots.

Every team member at Yama Training and Fitness is certified, either as a personal trainer, as a yoga instructor, or both. Not only does this speak to the team’s collective knowledge, but it also allows the studio to offer a wide range of fitness opportunities. Throughout the week, visitors can savor gentle stretches during Vinyasa yoga sessions, or escape the office and the gloating of a recently promoted Xerox machine during lunchtime active yoga sessions. For a little exercise, you can also power through one of Yama’s fitness classes, including high-energy boot camps.

Certified personal trainer Mechelle Haflich is familiar with both the highs and lows of physical health. As a bodybuilder, she has won competitions focused on superior strength, and as a registered massage therapist, she has eased injured muscles back into action. Both titles have proven essential in planning FitBody Studio, where she takes a holistic view on wellness through fitness, massage, and spa services. Alongside a team of highly credentialed instructors, therapists, and aestheticians, Mechelle's team adjusts her programs to suit each client's ambitions, which range from losing inches to being able to deadlift a locomotive. On the exercise side of the curriculum, private training sessions and group classes build endurance—Vinyasa yoga and kickboxing sessions round out the stair climbs and cardio drills of the Bleachers class, which takes place inside the Colorado College football stadium. To repair overworked deltoids, the studio's massage programs relax tendons and target injuries with a mix of modalities. After workouts sculpt bodies, FitBody Studio’s spa polishes them smooth with waxing services and custom facials.

What services does your business offer and what makes your business stand out from the competition? We are mobile and save time [by being] able to go to homes, parks, churches, etc. The goal is to create workouts that fit your desired results in a quick and efficient way. Exercise is challenging. How do you keep clients motivated and engaged? This comes through belief in all our athletes, no matter how old or young, fit or unfit they are. We treat our athletes with understanding. What was the inspiration to start or run this business? My hope is to learn how to run a fitness business in order to take it overseas one day to serve God. What do you love most about your job? Meeting my athletes and seeing who they are and how they perform in the growing process. Loads of fun!
