Owners Tracy Kuss and Christy Strand-Kolb share a passion for hairstyling, and they channeled that excitement into opening VanStrand Hair Salon in 2001. Their mission was to create a salon that provided high-quality haircuts, perms, and waxing treatments at reasonable prices. Creating a friendly place to visit and socialize was equally important to them, and today the two love how their salon gives them an opportunity to meet new people and establish relationships with return clients. To keep the vibe upbeat and fun, Tracy and Christy surround themselves with a team of equally passionate, talented, and amicable hair sculptors. Pairing their skills with top-shelf products such as American Crew and Phyto Organics, the stylists stick to their high standards and leave their customers with ‘dos as stylish and sleek as a Ferrari dressed in Versace.
Li Nguyen arms himself with an arsenal of Vivant Skin Care products and more than 10 years of experience in the skincare industry to tailor facial-care services to each client's needs. Li enriches epidermises during facials, which he follows with a 10-minute massage or a 15-minute microdermabrasion treatment that eradicates dead skin cells in the same way a millionaire keeps feral dogs off his lawn: by shooting miniature diamonds at them. He also addresses more pressing facial concerns with chemical peels and acne treatments.
Everywhere you look inside DD Style, you'll find a stylist or an aesthetician doing what she's best at. Over in the salon chairs, clients dictate how they want their new hairdos to look and watch as their dreams are cut and shaped into reality. On the other side of the salon, technicians paint nails with vivid color and aestheticians lead their clients into private rooms for waxing treatments.
Owner and proprietor Denny Kemp started his career in styling as one of the first students of Horst Rechelbacher, founder of Aveda. Amid playful depictions of personified planets, a brigade of artistically minded stylists, each with at least five years of experience, spritzes clients with such professional-grade products as Bumble and bumble and the French-developed Kérastase. Clarisonic dual-brush sonic oscillation uncorks pores during facials, and Dermalogica skincare products eschew irritants, artificial fragrances, and laugh tracks. In hair services, stylists smooth frizz with keratin formulas or, through the pinch-braid technique, weave natural hair with extensions while boosting volume.
One of Jennifer Adler’s personal heroes is Horst Rechelbacher, the maker of certified-organic beauty products who founded Aveda and Intelligent Nutrients. Inspired by his contributions to the eco-friendly salon industry, Jennifer developed her own holistic services. She aims to play up her client’s best features using environmentally conscious products, including human hair extensions and ammonia-free color. Working out of Horst & Friends Salon, Jennifer specializes in eyelash extensions—applied one strand at a time—that can last indefinitely if you get monthly refills or bat your lashes at the neighborhood genie.
