Tropical Tan, with a focus on convenience and the belief that everyone deserves a great tan, spans across four locations. Each tanning sanctuary is manned by a knowledgeable staff who offer advice and suggestions on which of the many tanning beds or lotions to use for the best bronze.
Sassy and inspirational quotes—such as "If you are confident, you are beautiful"—adorn the pink hallways and individual rooms of Fetish Beaute Boutique. These messages lend to the fun and welcoming atmosphere the staff works to create. The collection of tanning beds and sunless-tanning options darken skin tones, and a menu of waxing services readies bodies for the beach or competitive slip 'n' slide records. Makeup artists not only beautify faces for special events, they also teach lessons in proper application and color selection. Elsewhere in the shop, shelves teem with lotions and balms to enhance the tanning experience, as well watches, jewelry, and other girly accessories.
In CLK Designs' waiting room, an overstuffed leather couch lets customers relax one last time before committing to a new, stylish look. Inside the salon, stylists shampoo and shape clients' hair as Wonderland detectives gaze at them from behind the wall's framed mirrors. Technicians customize spray tans and apply them evenly with a handheld airbrush.
Developed in Beverly Hills, Glow to Go's sunless solution offers a safe and effective way to achieve beachy bronze in less than 10 minutes. A healthy alternative to UV beds and venomous minnow exposure, the spray tan process at Glow to Go employs Infinity Sun technology, which boasts being all natural and carbon neutral. Certified tanning technicians use airbrushes to apply customized color, misting contours with a special mixture of anti-oxidants and pure botanicals to leave skin hydrated and vibrant, like a marching band in a swimming pool. All sun-styling sessions take place in Glow to Go's 1,400-square-foot facility, and clients are encouraged to shower, shave, and remove lead aprons before swinging by for their treatment.
When Todd Beckman named his first two tanning salons The St. Louis Tan Company in 1994, he gave them a local name because he didn’t expect such rapid success. But when the business quickly expanded outside the city and into other states, Beckman changed its name to The Tan Company to reflect its national scope. Today, the company stretches from coast to coast, helping clients achieve a golden hue in upright Mystic Tan booths and in horizontal tanning beds. The salons also stock products from top industry brands such as Australian Gold, Designer Skin, and Swedish Beauty to help clients maintain their tans even after they leave the salon and return to the tunnel they’re digging to China.
