Work It, Girl! Dance Fitness’s owner, Sandy, wasn’t initially convinced that pole dancing could translate to an effective exercise routine. She first encountered the sensual workout while watching a morning health show, and she immediately recognized some of the spins and moves from her days as a gymnast. So, with intrigue and reservations equally in tow, she journeyed to the nearest pole-fitness studio—one located 100 miles away—to see what all the fuss was about. After her first class, she was fully on board. She found everything about pole dancing to be infectious, from the sense of empowerment she experienced while twirling around the pole to the intense strength and cardio exercises that left her breathless after each workout.
Today, Sandy’s own pole-fitness studio introduces women of all ages and abilities to the liberating workout that got her hooked on fitness. Sandy’s team of certified instructors helps students spin and twirl through classes that incorporate sexy pole and chair techniques that are sure to spice up boring bus commutes. They also groove to Latin-inspired tunes during Zumba Toning classes and build cardio endurance during interval-based Turbo Kick kickboxing classes.
Dance Pizazz owner Nikki McElvain believes that dancing is not just a fun way to spend an evening, but a way to celebrate life. Boasting more than a decade of experience gracefully swirling across dance floors, she now shares her fancy footwork with patrons of all skill levels at her own studio. She invites teens, adults, and seniors to explore the dance styles of ballroom, Latin, and swing on the studio's floating dance floor, whose low-impact surface relieves feet and joints. Singles and couples hone their technique in group or private lessons, and newly-weds-to-be can prepare for their first dance in wedding-oriented programs. To simulate a real-world dance setting, Nikki turns on the studio?s LED nightclub lights and releases Richard Simmons for evening social dances, where students can gather to show off their newly learned moves.
From the moment students walk through Sacred Movement's french doors and into its expansive practice space, they find themselves immersed in serenity owed to soft lighting, gleaming hardwood floors, and the noncompetitive attitude fostered by owner Jenn Kasper . Along with her team of fellow certified yoga instructors, Jenn leads inclusive yoga classes suitable for all experience levels and grounded in the Vinyasa and hatha yoga traditions. Beginners are encouraged to build a solid foundation for practice in Level 1 root classes or further their practice at their own pace in open-level classes that offer variations on classic poses. Savvier stretchers attempt challenging backbends and arm balances in intermediate Level 2 classes.
In addition to yoga, Sacred Movement also offers instruction in American Tribal Style belly dance. Offered in six-week sessions, the classes lead dancers through the belly-swaying basics, including lessons on posture, group maneuvers, and where to find office-appropriate crop tops.
