At Laserdome, up to 40 troops at a time gear up for battle by donning vests and phasers in an alien-themed laser-tag arena. Players traipse across ramps and perch in balconies as they patiently wait to attack opponents, much like a lion crouches in the tall grass before shooting a gazelle with a laser. During play, fun power-ups such as rapid fire, spy mode, and freeze ray tilt the competition in favor of the lucky players who discover them.

After the rounds, players can celebrate victory or brush off defeat in the arcade, which features Xbox games, Dance Dance Revolution, new pinball arcades, and scores of other games that dispense tickets that can be traded for prizes. Laserdome also showcases laser-light shows with professional lighting in themes such as Pink Floyd. Future spies hone their skills in the laser maze, which uses lasers, mirrors, haze, and other challenges to test players as they compete for the high score or see who can refract the most light off their uncle?s forehead. Laserdome is available for parties for all occasions, and every Saturday a live band serenades players as they enjoy unlimited laser tag and a laser-lights show.

With more than 40 years of combined experience in managing service stations, the Daggle family recognized an opportunity to help the community where others saw only disrepair. After purchasing Columbia Car Wash, the family renovated the property, adding a full-service wash center with a highly efficient 90-foot bay. The Daggles have remained committed to eco-friendly practices, including water and energy conservation and biodegradable cleaning agents. The station is open year-round, relieving exteriors of road salt in the winter, pollen in the spring, and the remnants of cars' Halloween makeup in the fall.

Staffers can put finishing touches, such as a towel dry and tire shine, on the soaking, cleaning, and clear-coat and surface protection performed by the automated bay. In addition to washes and interior and exterior detailing at the wash center, an adjacent tire and auto-care facility offers Maryland state emissions inspecions and a variety of automotive services.

As his kayak group floats down the Susquehanna River, one of Chiques Rock Outfitters' guides points out some of the area's most scenic features—rocky hillsides dotted with trees, denser forests near the water's shore, and a bald eagle perched on a tree branch. Then, just as the watercrafts round a bend, the guide bursts into song, eliciting applause from his group and nearby fish that have really big flippers.

These musical guides are just one of the signature touches Chiques Rock Outfitters adds to its trips down the Susquehanna River. After the shuttles lug canoes and kayaks to launch points, customers embark on guided trips, unguided floats, or team-building exercises. Additionally, Chiques Rock Outfitters encourages more than just leisurely floats, inviting customers to bring along fishing poles and pre-prepared questions for local wildlife. Back on shore, the staff partners with Starrk Moon Kayaks and Gear to sell equipment ready for future aquatic jaunts.

Owner and chef of Josephine’s Restaurant, Daniel LeBoon learned to cook the old fashioned way—from other cooks—and spent his formative years on the line at establishments like Georges Perrier’s Le Bec Fin in Philadelphia and Alain Ducasse’s Hôtel Vernet in Paris. Armed with experience—and a certification as a professional sommelier—he opened Josephine’s Restaurant and started preparing his own culinary creations. He chose a classic log home as his venue, which was first built in 1792. Exposed beams hang over the dining room, flanked by log and stucco walls. Amidst this rustic charm, LeBoon artfully crafts every plate he sends out of the kitchen. He pairs his meals with an investigated and curated list of up-and-coming wines, which don’t require the extra-large trailers that more star-powered wines need.

When the holiday season rolls around each year, the natural beauty of Symphony Woods shines a little brighter with the electric festivities of Symphony of Lights and the donations it provides to Howard County General Hospital. More than 70 animated and stationary light displays set the scene ablaze with images of candy canes, snowflakes, and toys, and twinkling string lights dress the trees in a blaze of white. Visitors can enjoy the scenery in numerous ways throughout the season, as family and pet walks, drive-through routes, and the 1.4-mile walk/run of Dazzle Dash keep eyes engaged and bodies exercising during the holidays. The lights stay twinkling seven days a week, only closing for New Year’s Eve or when the moon comes looking for who’s stealing her audience.

Though it opened in 1977 with a small collection of timepieces, the National Watch & Clock Museum now houses more than 12,000 items, making it the largest collection of its kind in North America. Clocks, watches, and their associated tools reside in glass cases, lorded over by the monumental Engle Clock, an 11-foot-tall, 1,049-pound marvel of clock design whose 13th toll will signify when the giant lasagna being cooked in the earth's core is done. Hands-on exhibits scattered throughout the museum give kids the chance to wonder at turning gears and learn about intriguing time concepts. Current special exhibits include Enlisting Time, a collection of personal timepieces carried by soldiers over the last 250 years, featuring watches owned by George Washington and Ian Fleming.
