When the Bluejays take the court, you can expect to see a sea of bright blue shirts at the Sam & Louie's at the corner of 24th and Cuming in Omaha. The location has been one of Creighton University's homes away from home since it opened in 1994, but its welcoming atmosphere is found at each of the eatery's 24 locations. There, friends and families bond over great conversation and an eclectic mix of casual cuisine from a menu inspired by traditional New York–style pizzerias. Eighteen specialty pizzas are hand tossed into thin-crust pies before being decorated with more than 35 toppings such as creamy alfredo sauce, sliced Italian meatballs, and canadian bacon. In deference to those with special dietary needs, almost all of these specialty pizzas are available in gluten-free pizzas.
In addition to pizzas, cooks also craft their daily-made dough into calzones and strombolis, which ooze with mozzarella cheese and marinara sauce. The menu culminates in five third-pound Black Angus burgers, Italian hoagies, and eight types of pastas. In addition to hosting guests inside their welcoming pizzerias for both lunch and dinner, the cooks at Sam and Louie's also take their food on the road, offering catering services for events both large and not-so-large.
It's hard to miss Wooden Windmill when driving down Broad Street. That's because, true to its name, there's a two-story wooden windmill at the front of the building. According to an article in the Fremont Tribune, the restaurant's previous owners bought this vintage contraption at a Silver Creek auction in 1982 and had it hauled to their eatery. The current owners made some renovations to add a party room in the actual windmill, making it a truly unique dining spot in the area.
The menu here has always featured home-cooked comfort food, with recent additions of Mexican dishes and recipes from Baby Huey's BBQ. Owner Kevin Hulett is one of the original creators of Baby Huey's, a style that's proven itself in regional barbecue circuits and condiment wrestling matches.
Domino’s has been decorating dough canvases with flavorful sauces, an assortment of cheeses, and high-quality toppings that range from classic to unconventional since 1960. Domino’s dough is tossed daily and stretched by human hands, not by clumsy catapults and model airplanes flying in opposite directions. Treat friends to a tasteful feast by checking the online menu and crafting a custom masterpizza with Domino's wide range of ingredients. Famished diners too starved to choose their own toppings can select from Domino’s American Legends, featuring signature flavors from throughout the land. Pizzas such as the Pacific Veggie, Honolulu Hawaiian, or Wisconsin 6 Cheese impart all the delicious diversity of a road trip without the hassle of decoding an atlas. Nonpizza fare includes pastas, sandwiches, and breadsticks.
Like any beloved neighborhood pizza joint, Lazzari's Pizza often sees lines snaking out the door, populated with customers eager to sink their teeth into a spicy chicken and cream cheese Randy Ross pizza or a handmade ricotta-stuffed calzone. The bustling restaurant takes its moniker from the Italian name for street urchins, who, legend has it, originally perfected the pizza as we know it today, eventually bringing it to the shores of the United States in a floating pizza box. Lazzari's menu shines in its selection of freshly baked pies, crowned with up to seven different cheeses and a bounty of traditional meat and veggie toppings. To complement the core cuisine, garlic bread makes a tasty side, creamy pesto seduces the palate, and spicy sausage makes an appearance in the eatery's pastas.
The owners of Brewsky’s Food & Spirits know that the best way to get friends and family together is to create a vibrant space filled with live music, all the best sporting events on TV, frosty brews, and a menu of comfort foods. While taking pride in being the spot to gather for Huskers games, as well as all other major sporting events, the owners also take immense satisfaction in serving a selection of juicy steaks, flame-broiled burgers, and wings that their chef concocted exclusively for the restaurant. The team also entertains patrons with trivia nights and shows such as dueling pianos or quarreling xylophones at the Haymarket location.
PieZano's combines handmade dough and fresh ingredients to fill its menu with pizzas, subs, and other Italian dishes available for comfortable consumption in the eatery or at home. The potato pizza layers sliced tubers with cream cheese, bacon, and ham to create a more elegant deconstruction of a baked potato than blowing up a plate of cheese fries ($9.17–$17.99). Single-topping pies balance meats and veggies on your choice of Neapolitan-style thin, standard medium, or Sicilian-style thick crusts ($6.99–$14.99). The pizzeria's signature pasta dish, Caesar's Pie, bakes a nest of spaghetti noodles mixed with Italian cheeses, hamburger, sausage, peppers, and onions under a bed of marinara sauce and mozzarella carved to resemble Emperor Augustus ($7.35/single, $14.70/family). For hands-on hunger control, flex digits around a hearty meatball sub coated with melted cheese ($6.85) or slice through a calzone customized with cheese and three of your favorite fillings baked inside a homemade garlic crust ($7.35).
