Although he's now a fitness expert and personal trainer to the stars, Todd "The Bodyman" wasn't always in perfect health. Todd struggled with both childhood lung disease and a ballooning waistline before losing more than 40 pounds and reclaiming a healthy lifestyle. Not only did he overcome those obstacles, he went on to become a black-belted martial artist, serve in the US Army, and eventually marshal his expertise as an active-lifestyle consultant for NBC 4 television. Today, Body by Todd's online resumé sparkles with celebrities such as actor Danny Glover, NFL pro and sports anchor Cris Carter, and recording artist Marti Dodson.
It's not just Todd who has emerged victorious from personal health battles. His team of trainers—which includes new moms and former cheerleaders, gymnasts, and soccer players—has each eked out hard-scrabble victories against excess weight, losing 25–75 pounds each. Todd and his crew have helped more than 10,000 clients reach their fitness goals with custom programs, using straightforward nutritional guidelines and exercises that, like dinner parties spent rubbing elbows with famous Muppets, are easy on the joints.
At GoYoga, certified instructors welcome students of all skill levels by demonstrating modifications that make poses easier for beginners or trickier for veterans. During Flow Fundamentals classes, they gently adjust alignment as students build strength and release stress with basic poses. Deep breaths power full-fledged Flow routines, which revolve around graceful Vinyasa sequences that more closely resemble dance steps. In addition to hosting beat-driven Groove sessions, the studio holds many types of classes inside an 85-degree room, which ousts toxins and allows muscles to feel as limber as a freshly massaged puddle.
True to its simplistic name, Wellness Forum Hot Yoga cranks the thermostat to a warm, humid, and detoxifying temperature designed to burn body fat, loosen stiff muscles, and flush out toxins. During each 90-minute hot-yoga class, the studio's trained instructors lead a looped series of 26 flowing poses, pushing well-warmed student bodies to forge new, flexible frontiers while maintaining rhythmic deep-relaxation breathing. After just a few flowing sessions, mentally limber students at Wellness Forum Hot Yoga can expect healthier-looking skin and occasional bouts of endorphin-induced giggles. To make the most of the heat-seeking experience, first-timers should arrive 15 minutes early with beach towels and yoga mats (rentals available for $1), plus water in their bodies, their bottles, and, if applicable, in any unattended at-home aquariums.
Owner Angie Althoff discovered personal fulfillment, camaraderie, and a greater level of fitness when she first attended a Les Mills class in 2006 at the behest of a friend. That day planted the seed of her passion, which grew into an instructor certification in 2011 and, eventually, Flow Studio. With the help of her husband, she's acquired the services of 21 other instructors, all certified to teach various Les Mills or Zumba exercises.
Flow Studio's bright yellow and orange exercise rooms reverberate with the sounds of upbeat tunes and top 40 hits as students punch, kick, dance, and cycle. The gym schedules classes each day of the week, providing plenty of opportunity to attend and re-attend sessions throughout the week.
At Victory Fitness Center, members pump iron in the weight room and pedals on the stationary bikes before giving weary muscles respite in the whirlpool or sauna. Besides providing fitness coaching to keep everyone on the right track, the gym also provides an environment free of intimidation with men- and women-only workout areas. To supplement those workouts, the staff designs easy-to-follow weight-loss programs, and certified trainers lead group classes such as Zumba, boxing, and boot camp.

It's helping kids develop life-long values, such as dedication, teamwork, and self-confidence. To that end, at the conclusion of every competition, each participant receives a medal to honor their commitment and team spirit. Cheer and dance classes are also offered at the AmeriCheer and AmeriDance National Training Facility—students are divided by age group and ability, and learn a progression of cheer and dance moves.
