United by a common interest in art and a commitment to nurturing artistic collaborations in their community, Wild Goose Creative organized this year’s Geekfest with the goal of bringing a wide range of self-proclaimed and budding geeks together. From Thursday, June 17, to Saturday, June 19, Geekfest features four individual events ($5 each). Thursday showcases a demonstration of Forbidden Kingdoms: The Art and Science of Roleplaying Games (7 p.m.), and Friday is scheduled with an hour of geek sketch comedy (8 p.m.) and Nerdcore Rising (9:30 p.m.), a film about MC Frontalot and his computer-obsessed brand of hip-hop. Saturday night features a video-game costume party (9 p.m.) at which attendees can dress up as their favorite character and turn 8-bit game entertainment into reality. From a single shop in Columbus, Ohio in 1971, Lion's Den has grown into a 40-location adult empire. The secret to the company's success is simple enough: Lion's Den tries to offer something for every adult that enters one of their stores or browses the virtual shop, including men, women, and couples. Their inventory reveals toys, lingerie, and gifts for bachelor and bachelorette parties, plus hundreds of other items. Sales staff strive to create a comfortable, professional environment in each store, standing ready to answer questions with knowledge and sensitivity.
Armed with an army of innovative and certified shutterbugs, Olan Mills Portrait Studio provides families with high-quality portraits, continuing a mission that was established more than 75 years ago by founder Olan Mills Sr. Skilled in the art of capturing infants, children, families, and bunny-ears-giving ghost orbs on film, Olan Mills’s experienced smile snappers will take a series of poses amid a variety of backgrounds and lighting options. The studio is equipped with a selection of props—including numbers for birthdays, toys, and boxes—and patrons may bring their own photo-enlivening items from home. The resulting photos find their way to prints in natural color, black and white, or sepia tones; they can also be immortalized in the studio's signature Old Masters style, a canvas brushed with highlights to recreate look of an oil painting. Like the gentlemanly mariners of ages past with their full schedule of sea-battles, the photographers welcome appointments, but do not require them.
