When Dru Silver isn't touring America with his band Locusta—a trek the group has made five times—he draws on his more than 10-year career to teach budding guitarists at Guitar Lessons Columbus. He starts slow with kids, not only helping each pupil have fun mastering a favorite song they like, but also preventing them from falling through their acoustic guitar's hole. With older students, whether they're beginners or advanced shredders, he personalizes lessons around each pupil's goals and interests, whether it's notating favorite songs by ear or learning to improvise solos. Those skills come in handy during the other activities Dru curates for his students, including jam sessions, recording sessions, and live concerts.
Take any or all of Aikido of Columbus's classes over the course of a month; the class schedule offers options six days a week. A friendly, experienced instructor pilots each session by first leading the group through relaxation training and vigorous exercise. Unlike jiu-jitsu and Sock'em Boppers, the point of Aikido is to avoid violence and dissolve potential physical confrontations. Learn self-reflection, self-awareness, and self-centered selflessness with today's side deal.
Josie Schweitzer opened Thank Yoga Studio in spring 2012. The two types of classes at the studio are open to students new to yoga and also those who have been practicing it for years. The studio's foundation classes introduce budding yogis to the necessary poses, alignment, and form practiced in more advanced sessions. The other main course is a one-hour all-levels Vinyasa flow class, during which students blend breath and movement into a fluid practice. Both these workouts are ideal for students who want to build strength, sharpen their mental faculties, and improve their flexibility so they can dominate on the competitive Twister circuit.
Yoga studio offering classes for every level from the beginning yoga student to the advanced yogi. Prenatal, kids and other speciality classes. Teacher training school with certifications at the 200 & 500-Hour levels. Workshops by local and national guest yoga teachers. Reiki workshops and attunements also offered.
The ample hands-on experience that Aveda Institute's students receive in cosmetology, hair styling, and skincare is only one part of their extensive training. Even as these burgeoning professionals master more advanced techniques, their instructors work to impart a sense of social and environmental responsibility. These are the tenets of founder and environmentalist Horst M. Rechelbacher, whose vision of living in sync with nature led to Aveda's botanically based products for hair and skin.
At the institute, students cull knowledge from industry experts through extensive practical training under the supervision of mentors. Stylists learn how to cut hair and soothe stress with complimentary mini facials, makeup touchups, and horn sharpening. Future aestheticians restore balance to faces and bodies with relaxing skincare treatments.
To connect with both the local and global community, students also apply their efforts toward charity events such as Earth Month. This campaign helps raise funds for the Sierra Club, who in turn uses the donations to help protect sources of clean water worldwide. The Institute is also hosting an upcoming fashion benefit show on April 23, with procedes going to the Big Brothers and Big Sisters of Columbus.
At age 16, Danny De Salvatore was astounded at how his body conformed to his wishes after a weightlifting regimen. What began as an effort to better his soccer playing grew into a lifelong passion—he earned a bachelor's degree in exercise science and a personal-training certification through ISSA. With credentials in hand, he worked at national gym chains throughout Columbus and taught in Rome at fitness centers during the summer. He continuously tracked observations as he met with clients, making note of which strategies led to results and which were simply fads. Soon, he was ready to open his own facility and cultivate the intimate, small-business vibe that would lead to loyal members.
Danny has gathered a team of experts to man one-on-one training sessions as well as group classes at Oxygen Health & Fitness. All of them contribute to a familial support network, making customers feel welcome by memorizing their names and tattooing their initials onto each pectoral. Massage, tanning, and nutritional wellness services round out the gym's fitness offerings for a balanced approach to physical welfare.
