Patrons descend upon Tiki Tan to bronze bodies bathing in UV-free spray-tanning booths or reclining in tanning beds. Tanners can opt for the luxurious Mystic HD Tan session to relish in a UV-free glimmer as a formula concocted from natural ingredients gently canvases physiques in a choice of four golden shades, resulting in up to 10 days of bronzed hide. Clients can step into the Mystic HD Tan spray booth, which is warmed to near one's body temperature—customizable for humans or crested geckos. After the application, a light puff of air dries newly painted epidermal landscapes so clients can get dressed as soon as the session finishes.
Though their names may be slightly different, the family of nail salons that is Comstock Nails, Lovely Nails, MI Nails, and Wyoming Nails have almost everything else in common. That includes a friendly staff, pedicure thrones with soothing jet tubs, and specialty nail services such as Shellac manicures. The last of these is a particular highlight—the specially formulated Shellac polish cures under UV light and resists chipping for up to two weeks. All three of the salons carry multiple colors of CND Shellac polish, including seasonal shades such as Sugared Spice and Deep-Fried Turducken.
Stiles Salon's stylists trim and color hair of every ilk in their bright, airy space, shaping looks with Bed Head and Scruples products. They skillfully snip the split ends of women, men, kids, and sentient mannequins alike. Mirrors positioned at each station reflect sleek, finished styles or works-in-progress as clients relax in plush black styling chairs. In addition to offering hair services, the staff lavishes clients' skin with tanning and spruces up nails in coats of regular or long-lasting CND Shellac polish.

The latest addition to Directions Hair Co., Mari Z. applies skills cultivated during 13 years of experience to dazzle hair with styling and color treatments. Brandishing certified-organic products from Sukesha and All-Nutrient and kukui-nut-derived Paul Brown Hawaii, stylists drench frazzled strands with salubrious essentials oils and minerals. A stalwart enemy of dullness, the warmly lit salon—in which elegant framed mirrors reflect sun-hued, textured-paint walls, large green plants, and decorative plates—houses hardwood flooring that prevents clients from sinking into mysterious, unreachable oblivion or the ground. Couches and padded chairs keep salon denizens comfy as they pour over the sundry magazines that blanket a coffee table and wait for their names to be called.
“Stocky.” Justin Yule remembers when others used this adjective to describe him, an observation he considered to be a nice way of saying that he was overweight. It wasn’t until his dad invited him to work out at the gym that Justin discovered a passion for fitness and a desire to chisel away the stockiness he carried. Since achieving his goals, he has kept up his fit physique more than 22 years.
Justin also channeled his passion into a bachelor’s of science in physical education with a concentration in adult fitness. He used his extensive training to devise the curriculum for Look Great at the Lake Boot Camp, which he also founded. Justin calls his program the “fitness revolution,” mainly because it breaks exercisers out of the tedious routines they often fall into at the gym or when their friend Sisyphus asks them to push his rock and promises he’ll only be gone for five minutes. Every one of Justin’s workout moves come in three levels, each scaled to challenge exercisers of different strengths and experience levels. He also relies heavily on body-weight resistance exercises, and coaches provide guidance and support to clients in reaching their goals.
Justin considers the most valuable part of his program to be the camaraderie that he encourages among his participants in and out of the boot-camp classroom. He organizes charity events and parties so that groups can mingle and become a cohesive unit working toward a single goal. To further ease his clients’ path to fitness, he also offers nutrition programs, online exercises and tips, and education in the form of newsletters and fitness books that he’s penned himself.
