Fans of Mario Kart know Rainbow Road as a glow-in-the-dark racecourse in outer space. So do fans of ABC's The Bachelor, only theirs is located on earth and strewn with more celebrities than turtle shells. To them, it's the series of inflatable arches that flashed hypnotically around Juan Pablo and Kat as they hurtled through the Electric Run. Seth Rogen, Carmen Electra, and a pink-wigged Vanessa Hudgens have also been spotted among the global event's hordes of runners and walkers. Rainbow Road is just one of many "lands" that make up Electric Run's luminescent 5K. Any given Electric Run course contains five to seven of these brightly lit zones, each decorated according to its theme with neon trees, hanging umbrellas, phosphorescent cacti, and cascading fountains. Each land also matches the surroundings with its own soundtrack: upbeat and energizing for the wilder areas, calming and melodic for the surreal ones. Once the sun sets, participants travel through them all at their preferred pace. Everyone arrives at the same final destination, however?a DJ-propelled afterparty that keeps the night illuminated until the thunderous ka-chunk of the sun's timecard.

The ROC Race is a 5K fun run with a catch?a dozen of them, to be exact. Twelve giant obstacles stand in the way of victory, including a wrecking ball that threatens to knock runners off their path. The various challenges draw their inspiration from the world's most extreme game shows, where contestants have to run through tires, swing on ropes, and swoosh down giant slides. To make things even more exciting, ROC's organizers encourage participants to dress up in wacky costumes like tutus or outfits inspired by superheroes such as the Fantastic 5K Finisher. This epic event descends on cities across the U.S., welcoming runners ages 13 and up to fend off water and foam before greeting crowds of spectators at the finish line. A post-race experience keeps things going with even more foam and festivities.

Crowds of people decked out in leg warmers and bandanas, sporting popped collars on their Members Only jackets and rocking Wayfarer shades. It sounds more like a Duran Duran video shoot than a fun-run, and that's the gist of the 80's Retro Run. Set to a soundtrack of the decade's best tunes, the throwback 5K celebrates the years that gave the world MTV and landfills full of unsolved Rubik's Cubes. Contestants are encouraged to dress up like their favorite '80s icon as they run, walk, or moonwalk their way to the finish line. After they've completed the course, revelers can shake it up at the after-party, where cover bands and DJs kick out nostalgic jams. Proceeds from the Retro Run benefit local charities, and all contestants receive their own headband, an event T-shirt, and an excuse to show off their collection of antique slap bracelets.

The Color and Glow Run could just as easily be called the Color and Glow Walk, or the Color and Glow Dance. It?s not important how fast racers finish the 5K course, what?s important is what those runners wear. As long as they sport a white T-shirt, they can enjoy a colorful or glow-in-the-dark makeover at the hands of the race?s volunteer crew.

Trails for Tails 5K puts every participant's two legs to work running, with every cent drawn in by the event going to benefit charities for dogs in need of rescue. The race takes place at Historic Rural Hill, providing runners with rewarding views of the Davidson family estate. Organizers set aside time and a portion of the course specifically for those who wish to come and walk their dogs. At the race's conclusion, runners can relax with refreshments from vendors while learning more about rescue operations or how to keep their own pooch healthy.
