A Hartford community staple since it was sculpted around the 1930s, Goodwin Park Golf Course peppers the countryside with 27 holes of various challenges. The main 18-hole, 6,015 yard course weaves among trees and gentle hills, offering three sets of tees for different handicaps, while a shorter 9-hole executive layout lets golfers squeeze in a round before their magic driver turns back into a useless tent pole.

Course at a Glance: * 18-hole, par 70 course * Length of 6,015 yards from the farthest tees * Course rating of 68.6 from the farthest tees * Slope rating of 119 from the farthest tees * Three tee options * Scorecard

Cote Golf Instruction blends one on one coaching with video replay and ball flight technology, crafting customized training programs to help students master the mercurial movements of the dimpled white sphere. Cote's Dead Solid ball flight simulator employs multiple video cameras to play back each swing swung, showing students accurate hooks, slices, and straight shots, as well as swing path and clubface angles. Their technology brings the game’s mechanics to life, and unlike cold iron blindfolds, helps students study their progress from one swing to the next for improved power and consistency. Owner and resident pro Jon Cote adjusts his lessons to each individual's unique swing style and learning method, and e-mails videos of each day's lesson plan, allowing patrons to practice from the comfort of their living room or traveling caravan.

Fitness Together isn't your usual gym. The locally owned franchise doesn't boast ultra-chic titles, avant-garde workout rooms, or elitist trainers. What it does do is help each exerciser achieve sustainable results via its goal-oriented philosophy and proprietary triple threat of resistance training, cardiovascular exercises, and nutritional knowledge. The Aspire 8 resistance program sculpts clients' physiques over the course of eight progressive phases through a one-year period dotted with individual goals. Cardio Together presents personalized programs designed and tracked by a certified trainer, and Nutrition Together crafts a plan for healthy living that doesn't involve water imported from Canada’s fountain of youth and includes the help of one-on-one meetings with a nutritionist.

Laser Planet's sprawling facility hosts a trio of attractions: laser tag, black-light mini golf, and an arcade. Competitors don vests and equip their laser-emitting weapons before heading into the multi-level laser-tag arena, where they'll be met with techno music, fog, and strobe lights, as they navigate corridors and attempt to tag the other team in a game of PowerPoint de la muerte. Or, they can head to the mini-golf arena, where black lights illuminate bright colors, aliens, and astronauts positioned around the 10-hole course. Elsewhere, a video arcade presents digital challenges, as players grab joysticks and mash buttons gleefully. Additionally, Laser Planet also offers a host of parties and events, ranging from all-night lock-ins, to corporate team building, to birthdays.

Oak Hills Golf Course opened for play in 1969 under the direction of architect Alfred H. Tull, who also helped design such renowned courses as Brandywine, Congressional, and Westchester Country Clubs. The 18-hole layout bears many features that became design traits of Mr. Tull's throughout his illustrious seven-decade career. The course is characterized by dense, tree-lined fairways with curved features, rolling terrain with elevation changes, and large green designs that showcase his inability to draw a perfect circle. Golfers must wield their putters confidently to slay the aggressive greens on holes such as No. 5, a par 3 with a 195-yard tee shot with forced carry over water, and No. 11, with its sharp dogleg fairway and right-to-left sloping green protected by numerous bunkers.

Though a public course, Oak Hillls offers many of the amenities found at a private club. Among these include eight tennis courts and an onsite restaurant, ideal for posting "lost golf ball" signs and celebrating after a day on the fairways.

Course at a Glance * 18-hole, par 71 course * Total length of 6,317 yards from the back tees * Course rating of 70.3 from the back tees * Slope of 133 from the back tees * Three sets of tees * Scorecard

The 27 holes that comprise Centennial Golf Club cover 340 woodland acres of pristine greenery, earning the Larry Nelson-designed course a difficult to achieve rating of Outstanding from Golf Digest. The nine-hole slates—dubbed the Fairways, the Lakes, and the Meadows—are characterized by frequent undulations and numerous encounters with intersecting waterways. Evergreens line the fairways on most holes, stretching out their needles to snag errant shots and raise golf balls as adopted pine cones in the family tree.

Centennial Golf Club's sprawling facilities include state-of-the-art instruction, practice facilities, and the Grille Room with indoor and outdoor dining spaces.

Course at a Glance:

  • Three 9-hole, par 36 courses

  • Maximum 18-hole length of 7,133 yards

  • Maximum 18-hole course rating of 75.3

  • Maximum 18-hole slope rating of 145

  • Four sets of tees per hole
