With deli-inspired soup and sandwich fare and a burger selection featuring beef, chicken, salmon, and vegetarian options, A Taste Gourmet offers a menu full of traditional American cuisine with an epicurean twist. The Plain Jane burger ($7.50) wins over once-shallow taste buds with its inner beauty and a healthy dollop of the bistro's signature sauce, while the French Dip ($7.95) takes roast beef and provolone on a beret-first plunge into savory au jus. Purchasers also receive 10% off of products from the bistro's gourmet grocery, which offers more than 40 international meats and cheeses, wine and beer from the Old and New Worlds, and more British imports than an American cricket tournament.

Nestled between the Willamette River and its namesake mountains, the Mount Pisgah Arboretum houses 209 acres rich with plant life. Ferns, mosses, and wildflowers abound in the arboretum's forests, gardens, and meadows, which visitors can explore along 19 trails. In fact, the nonprofit's plant list tallies a whopping 67 families, 231 genera, and 339 species. Nearly 90 of the latter line the arboretum's entrance garden alone, including almost 60 types of Rhododendron.

Besides plants, Mount Pisgah Arboretum hosts diverse wildlife ranging from endangered western pond turtles to songbirds. Native amphibians and reptiles, meanwhile, live in the Visitor Center amongst a working beehive and microscopes for inspecting bugs or your thumb on accident. Elsewhere, guests can feast in the wooded picnic area or exchange vows at the Great Meadow's wedding ceremony sites. Throughout the year, the arboretum hosts plenty of other events and programs, including an annual mushroom festival and myriad nature walks.

The team at Noteworthy Learning doesn't just notice when kids struggle with reading, long division, and other key skills. They investigate the root cause of the problem, which usually stems from a weakness in one of 27 learning aptitudes. From there, they create a personalized curriculum that builds on each kids' unique strengths, such as seeing hot lava monsters invisible to adults.

This approach can be especially helpful for educational transitions, such as the start of high school or college. And thanks to an experienced leader, Sue Luker, the team is equipped to deal with them all. She draws on more than 35 year as a public school teacher, plus a masters degree in curriculum design, to advise her team on designing their programs. The results have given kids ages K-12 the upper academic hand, including children with special needs.
