Lauded by The Miami Herald’s Christine Dolen for their “high artistic standards,” Area Stage Company’s founder, John Rodaz, and its producer, Maria Rodaz, have been providing a spotlight for South Florida’s rising talent since 1989. In addition to staging Broadway hits, the group seeks out compelling scripts by Hispanic playwrights, presenting them in both Spanish and English. Now settled into the Riviera Theater, the company has expanded to include music and dance series, a professional theatre program, and an invisible supporting cast for one-man plays.
Virtually unchanged since it opened in 1946, Fox's Sherron Inn is known as one of Miami's favorite dive bars. But it's more than a rough-around-the-edges place to throw back a cocktail or two. The kitchen turns out delicious pub fare, and on many a night, patrons catch stellar local music. Many press outlets agree that Fox's Sherron Inn is a rare gem?even Martha Stewart magazine, which named it one of 100 reasons to hit the road.

A fund-raising event for The United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education, Rocks for Education aims to draw audiences with a family-friendly mix of music, comedy, and more. Emmy winner and Local 10 News anchor Laurie Jennings will serve as the event's emcee, and stars David Henrie of Wizards of Waverly Place and Drake Bell of Drake & Josh will engage spectators with songs, comedy, and other unmimed entertainments. Performances by local dance teams and American Idol contestant Symphony Music Howlett will add to the rhythmic stew, making the event more melodic than a Broadway musical about Mozart and the pianos who loved him. The evening's beneficiary, The United Way Center for Excellence in Early Education, bolsters learning for little ones with advocacy, parent/teacher training, and resources such as a demonstration school.
