Four players enter. Two players leave. Then the other two players leave, but only because they've just lost a soccer match. The soccer cage is a condensed form of the sport developed in Europe to hone fundamentals in a confined arena. Matches are limited to three minutes apiece, and the smaller format emphasizes precision shots, ball control, and perfectly timed tackles. Besides this lightning-fast take on every sneaker's favorite game, Soccer Cage Sports also rents a larger cage called the Arena, a multifunctional cage called the Pit, and a 26-foot-tall climbing wall with an auto-belay system.

At ATA Martial Arts Academy, fourth-degree black belt Richard Rodriguez teaches three taekwondo training programs: Tiny Tigers (ages 4?6), Karate for Kids (ages 6?12), and Adult Martial Arts (ages 13 and older). Although each class incorporates different techniques, they're all designed to boost fitness, promote self-confidence, and give students the skills to defend themselves in an attack or when walking too close to tree branches.
What inspired you to start your own martial-arts school?
It has been a lifelong dream to teach at and own my own martial-arts school. Ever since high school, my focus has been to develop students into great people who are skilled in martial arts. When I saw people grow in confidence over weeks of training, I knew that the business of helping people was going to be my passion. When the opportunity presented itself to serve the city I grew up in, I was humbled to do so. My motivation is positively impacting the lives of students and their families.
What’s the vibe of your school like?
The vibe is a homegrown business. It’s a clean, straightforward presentation that is modest in its decoration. We keep our trophies in the corner of the room while we display our six principles—Be Polite, Be Patient, Be Alert, Be Brave, Do Your Best, Respect Yourself and Others—proudly over our mirrors.
Describe you average student.
Our average customers are people that have heard about the benefits of martial-arts training and want to see what it can do for them. They start out timid and apprehensive but, with consistent encouragement, they grow into more confident people that can stand in front of a group . . . and be themselves without being embarrassed.
What makes your business stand out from the competition?
Our school emphasizes the character development that other schools seem to lose sight of. We give our students the chance to grow in confidence and build themselves up to effectively defend themselves in a great atmosphere. We are dedicated to the goals of our students and encourage them to be the best version of themselves they can be.
At Sprockets Bicycle Shop, a team of cycling gurus equips riders with used or rental bikes, keeps the ones they already own running smoothly, and curates a wide range of accessories that ensure style, safety, and optimal functioning. Their workshop's purview covers the full gamut of bicycle maintenance and assembly, from wrapping handlebars and adjusting brakes to building custom bikes from scratch or using boxes of dehydrated bike mix.
The instructors at Denton Boxing Club teach their students to follow in the footwork and land punches in the fist prints of the great boxers who have come before them. That doesn't mean they're a bunch of roughnecks, though. Rather, they embrace the sport’s classic training style, focusing on fitness during group lessons and reserving actual sparring instruction for private sessions. In addition to arming students with self-defense-style combos, these group classes increase strength through sessions with the heavy bag, and boost stamina with targeted of cardio and endurance work. Designed by actual boxers, classes also torch calories and slim down waistlines, and boost overall fitness with workouts that engage muscle groups throughout the body.
